HomeAid Georgia's mission is to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education.

Successful Metro Atlanta Essentials Drive

During the first phase of HomeAid Georgia’s 24th Annual Essentials Drive in April, the metro Atlanta community donated thousands of baby items online or dropped them off at 20 metro Atlanta locations including Academy Mortgage, Ameris Bank, David Weekley Homes, Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, and SouthState Bank. Nearly 220,000 baby items were distributed to 24 nonprofits serving families in need just in time for Mother’s Day.

HomeAid Georgia's Essentials Drive continues through June, with the Athens Area HBA participating in honor of Father’s Day. All baby items collected will go to the Athens Diaper Bank

Essentials Drive Volunteers Aid 24 Nonprofits

During the week of May 5, volunteers from Pinnacle Financial Partners, Juneau Construction Company, Ameris Bank, Lennar, Starlight Homes, Timberlake Cabinetry, and BankSouth Mortgage helped unload, sort, count, and pack Essentials Drive donations at HomeAid Georgia in Alpharetta. Carter Lumber and Stuart Pro Heating and Air provided box trucks and assistance with delivery. All donated items were delivered to these nonprofits serving moms and young children in need just in time for Mother’s Day:

DWH & Friends Save $97,000 with HomeAid

On May 16, David Weekley Homes and their trade partners joined HomeAid for a major Care Day at Calvary Refuge Center, which provides emergency and transitional housing in a safe, faith-based environment for individuals and families while providing the tools to transition from homelessness to self sufficiency.

In addition to the work of the Care Day, a brand-new commercial gas stove was purchased and installed to replace a decades-old and broken one. Funds for the stove came from David Weekley Homes' DWH CARES grant and a donation from Weaver Grading. Altogether, the hard work of David Weekley Homes volunteers and trade partner donations of labor and building materials provided a savings of over $97,000 on construction and maintenance work for Calvary Refuge Center.

This was HomeAid's fifth Care Day with David Weekley Homes.

Approximately 50 volunteers completed a variety of tasks throughout the Calvary Refuge Center campus on May 16, and 30 volunteers began work at the site the week prior. Jobs included:

  • Remediation
  • Interior painting
  • Roof repairs
  • Extensive grading and landscaping throughout entire campus
  • Updated electrical and plumbing throughout facility
  • Added ceiling fans in transitional rooms
  • Added new HVAC vents and humidistats to prevent mold issues
  • New lighting
  • Installed new drainage system
  • Repaired chapel area and salvaged historic stained glass
  • Caulked and sealed all windows

...and more!

David Weekley Homes engaged these trade partners for the Care Day, who generously donated or discounted nearly $80,000 worth of labor and materials:

North Georgia Angel House Nears Completion

HomeAid Builder Captain Taylor Morrison leads work on this new administrative and reception center at the entrance to North Georgia Angel House (NGAH) to help increase safety and security. NGAH provides shelter, life skills, educational assistance, and clinical services to give youth in and transitioning out of the foster care system the best shot at a successful future. Since 2006, more than 1,800 girls between ages 12 -21 have called NGAH home. This project is expected to wrap up in June.

"We so appreciate the lift to help us add this building. Taylor Morrison and HomeAid Georgia have invested a lot in our girls over the years. A HUGE THANK YOU to Eric Wacaster and his leadership alongside some of the most giving trades in the country to make this a reality."

 - Susan Worsley, NGAH Executive Director & CEO
