We're Homeowners!

For nearly 11 years, Transplant House of Cleveland has been a home-away-from-home for organ transplant patients and caregivers on the corner of Mayfield Road and Circle Drive — just a short distance from the hospitals. Our rowhouse couldn't be located any better for our guests, who can rest easier knowing they are not far from their loved one in the hospital, feel the safety and secuity of being near their care teams when their loved one is with them at the House, and who have access to a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of things to do, see, and eat.

We're excited to share that Transplant House of Cleveland is now the proud owner of this building we've called home for years!

Owning our building means greater stability, the ability to invest in long-term facility improvements that benefit our guest families, and that we have secured a permanent home for our mission and the families we serve.

This incredible milestone was made possible by the generous support of an anonymous family trust and we are grateful to them for helping us turn this dream into a reality!

We can’t wait to continue building a stronger future for Transplant House of Cleveland—right here in the place we’ve always belonged.

5 Years of Extraordinary Care

Annette celebrates her birthday with guests and volunteers at our weekly Tuesday breakfast — an event shaped by Annette that is essential to creating the supportive community guest families experience here.

Annette Humberson joined the Transplant House of Cleveland staff in March of 2020 as the Social Work Manager with 15 years of experience as a clinical transplant social worker. Annette's depth of knowledge about what kinds of support patients and caregivers need and, in turn, what they should expect during the transplant process from evaluation to post-transplant health management was an invaluable addition to the organization and enabled us to provide greater care for the families who call this House home while in Cleveland.

Which is why this moment is bittersweet for all of us at the House. After 5 years, Annette has decided to step away from her role in order to spend more time with her sons. She has built an incredible legacy here — multiple support programs for guests (the Tuesday morning breakfasts, our weekly AA meetings exclusively for transplant patients, and our weekly Navigating the Journey group for caregivers), individualized attention to the financial and emotional needs of our guests, and a commitment to "meeting patients and caregivers where they are." Too many transplant families to count have benefitted from Annette's care.

As a staff we've gained so much from Annette's knowledge and learned from the ways she has created spaces for our guests to connect, to celebrate, to lift one another up, and to grieve. We would not be the organization we are today without her knowledge, perspective, and boundless capacity for empathy. Her presence broadened the scope of our mission and our capacity to be there for families in the midst of a challenging journey.

We look forward to bringing on a new social worker to continue this essential work, but we know we can never replace Annette.

Happenings Around the House

Donate Life Month at Transplant House

We are advocates for organ donation year round, but April is a special time here at the House when we celebrate the gift of life with our local community and do our part to help spread the word about the importance of donation.

This year we hung volunteer-painted banners around our campus, hosted an Open House gathering on Donate Life Day, and collaborated with our partners at the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals to share about the life-saving gift organ donation makes possible.

Transplant House on the Airwaves!

Our Executive Director Elaine Turley was on the radio not once, but TWICE, in April. First, alongside Edmund Wilson III of Lifebanc on WRUW's Voices and Choices program for a wide-ranging conversation about the vital work that both of our organizations provide within the larger transplant community here in Northeast Ohio and second, as guests of University Circle Inc. on their Circle Unscripted program with Cara Stock of Hope Lodge and Aristea Tzouloufis of Ronald McDonald House to discuss the vital role of hospitality housing in University Circle and Cleveland.

Providing Comfort and Community

Thank you to the RCM ABC Team from the Cleveland Clinic for a delicious dinner of breaded chicken tenderloin, rotisserie chicken, pasta, garlic bread, salad, and dessert. On a cold, rainy April evening there's nothing better than a hot meal and warm fellowship.

We are so grateful for our many meal donors throughout April and year-round who bring the comforts of home to our guest families!

So far in 2025, Your Support Has Made Possible...

Ring that Bell!

Ring that bell! Earlier this month, we wished Joel and Angela Prentice a safe journey home to Dayton after a stay of 89 nights at Transplant House and a new heart for Joel. We are grateful for Joel's second chance at life made possible by his transplant, for his donor's "yes" that gave him a second chance at life, and to celebrate this major milestone with the Prentices.

If you are not already a registered organ donor, please consider becoming one today.
