Goshen County Lodging Tax Board contracts with Goshen Economic Development/Chamber to implement the tourism marketing and administration of the event grant program, with oversight by this board. This work is extensive and has proven successful with the benefits measurable. One measure being overnight visitors. This number has increased by approximately 19,000 annually and has remained significantly higher than before the partnership with GED.
In 2019, for example, Goshen County welcomed 116,000 overnight visitors. These travelers spent $33.8 million, generating $600,000 in sales taxes, 9.3% of all sales tax collected. If not for the taxes generated by the travel and tourism industry, the average household in Goshen County would have to pay an additional $332 in taxes for existing government services.
