FOLK ANNOUNCES
RE-ELECTION CANDIDACY
FOR CITY COUNCIL
Jack Folk of Tifton has announced his candidacy for re-election to District 2 on Tifton City Council .

"I believe we have accomplished a lot over the last 3½ years and would be honored to be able to continue serving on the City Council ," Folk said. "I humbly ask for your vote and support on Nov. 5 ."

Folk has nearly 30 years in the manufacturing industry in finance and operations . He is retired from  Alcoa/Sapa  and is a  former plant manager  at  Tifton Aluminum , as well as a  former plant manager  at several locations  throughout the Southeast .

" Safety has always been a top focus for me; making Tifton safer for residents has been one of my top priorities . With that in mind, I pushed to increase the pay for our police and fire personnel," he said.

Folk noted that the city has stepped up efforts to publicize rules regarding golf cart usage on city streets and cracked down on underage golf-cart drivers. Also, more stop signs have been erected to address speeding cars in neighorhoods .

"With a background in the financial world, I was one of two members who created and was selected to serve on the (city) finance committee ... created to oversee the budget ," Folk said.

"This committee was instrumental in the development of the last four budgets that were balanced and had no increase in taxes ," he said. "I also led the way to change the purchasing policy to give preference to local vendors within strict guidelines.  Spending local pumps money back into the local economy . I believe my background has put me a unique position to analyze and help make better decisions on purchases of major equipment ."

Folk said the city's " deteriorating infrastructure continues to be a challenge ."

"We have a plan to replace the worn-out pipes in a structured, economical way. We have replaced all of the residential water meters and are working to replace the larger commercial ones based on age and condition," he said.

"We also implemented a process to repave streets in a more systematic way.  ESG ( our public works provider)  has done an analysis of the streets and base the repaving decision on condition and usage . A lot has been done , but there continues to be a lot more to do ," Folk said.

"We have done all of these improvements within a budget that did not increase taxes ."
