Know Before You Go
Junior Classic Cattle Check-In Requirements

Registration papers are required at check-in. Please make sure that all animal tattoos are legible and match registration papers prior to departure to Grand Island.

According to the Nebraska State Veterinarian, registration papers and health certificates will be required for all animals being shown at the 2017 AGJA Big Red Classic. The animal's tattoo must appear on the health certificate. These papers will be checked at the time of check-in at the show; any animal that does not have the correct documents will be unable to be shown. For questions regarding this matter, please contact Mary Bea Martin at the AGA office or the Nebraska State Veterinarian at 402-471-2351.

From I-80, take exit 314 for Locust Street toward Grand Island. Turn right on Stolley Park Road and use gate 3, there will be a welcoming committee at the gate.

Barn Move-In
Due to quick turnaround time, the host state will be setting up the morning of Saturday, June 24 which means there will trucks and trailers moving in and out of the barn for set up. However, the barn will remain closed to all exhibitors until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.  Exhibitors will be able to unload tack into the barn only after 2:00 p.m. Please be courteous to the host state and staff as they are preparing for the exciting week ahead. All cattle must go to tie-outs on Saturday and will be allowed in the barns starting on Sunday, June 25 at 7:00 a.m.

Straw for tie-out bedding and hay will be provided.

Departure
All cattle and tack must be out of the barn by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30. Cattle may stay in tie-outs until your departure home on Saturday, July 1.   

No Alcohol Allowed on the Grounds
This is a junior event and there is a no alcohol rule in the barns or on the grounds. First violation will result in a verbal warning. Consequences from a second violation will be determined by the Junior Board and may be as severe as being dismissed from the show.

Quiz bowl statements and Skill-A-Thon study guides are available on the Junior Classic page on www.gelbvieh.org. Be sure to print the statements and study guides at home to be able to study them on the road to Grand Island!

Attention Steer Exhibitors: New Check-In Time

Steer weigh-in will take place at cattle check-in on Sunday, June 25. If you are showing a steer and have not already turned in a steer affidavit, please be sure to bring it or the registration paper with you to cattle check-in.

Perspective AGJA BOD Candidates

If you are elected to the AGJA Board of Directors at the annual meeting on Wednesday, June 28, you will need a white button up collared shirt (gentlemen don’t forget your tie!), black pants, and dress boots or shoes for the banquet. All elected board members will be asked to work the ring on show days and will be need to wear a white button up collared shirt, nice jeans, and boots. 

Awards Banquet

The awards banquet is on Friday, June 30, and will be held at the Riverside Golf Club located at 2820 Riverside Drive, Grand Island, Nebraska 68801. The dance will take place after the banquet at the headquarters hotel, Boarders Inn.

If you still need to purchase tickets for the banquet, tickets will be available throughout the week and can be purchased at the show office.

Live Broadcast

For those who are unable to make it to the show, both show days, Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30, will once again be broadcast this year through Show Barn Flix. A link to the live broadcast will be sent out via email and will be available on the Junior Classic page on www.gelbvieh.org as well as on the AGA and AGJA Facebook pages.

Register for The Summit

Don’t forget to register for The Summit before you leave for junior classic! This youth leadership conference is for youth ages 14-22 interested in the beef industry and will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska, August 3-6. Registration deadline is July 1 and only 100 spots are available!
