Big Sur Health Center Selected 2023 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 30

The Big Sur Health Center has been selected by Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) as the 2023 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 30.

Assembly District 30 includes parts of Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, and San Luis Obispo County. This is the eighth year of the California Nonprofit of the Year initiative.

Big Sur Health Center is one of more than one hundred nonprofits that will be honored by their state senators and assemblymembers for their outstanding contributions to the communities they serve.

BSHC was founded in September 1979, through a local, grass-roots effort, to meet the needs of this rural community through its mission to provide quality comprehensive medical care to all in Big Sur regardless of ability to pay.

As the only medical facility between the Monterey Peninsula (30 miles to the north) and Cambria (70 miles to the south), BSHC plays a vital role in the local community, serving the health care needs of the population by providing local, culturally and linguistically appropriate, affordable, quality medical care.

“Big Sur Health Center staff members work tirelessly and far beyond the call of duty to care for our community, especially during fires, floods, pandemics and other environmental disasters. We are extremely honored to be recognized by Assemblymember Dawn Addis as the 2023 nonprofit of the year and are proud to represent the 30th district.”

Now in its 8th year, the Nonprofit of the Year Initiative allows each California state legislator to choose a nonprofit organization doing outstanding work in their district.

“California Nonprofit of the Year gives elected leaders the opportunity to shine a light on what nonprofits are accomplishing for the people in their districts and for everyone to appreciate the collective impact of nonprofits across the state,” noted Jan Masaoka, CEO of the California Association of Nonprofits. CalNonprofits serves as a partner for this awards program, which culminates with a celebratory luncheon at the Capitol on California Nonprofits Day, June 7, 2023.
