Big Ten CRC establishes Kenneth and Verna Mae Jessen Award
The Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium recently established the Kenneth and Verna Mae Jessen Award after a generous donation of $100,000 from the Verna Mae Jessen Trust. The trust supports nonprofit organizations working in cancer or pain management research. The Kenneth and Verna Mae Jessen Award will provide funding for basic, correlative, clinical, or population science oncology research. Researchers at all Big Ten CRC member institutions are invited to submit proposals. Initials LOIs are due August 21.

Register for the 2022 Big Ten CRC Summit hosted by Ohio State University
Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium 2022 Summit will take place in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, November 19. Registration is open until Friday, September 30, 2022. We invite senior and junior faculty and fellows involved in clinical oncology research, basic scientists involved in drug discovery and translational research, cancer center leadership and administration, industry leaders and medical science liaisons, and community leaders. Thank you to the Ohio State University for hosting the 2022 Summit!

Member Feature: University of Illinois Cancer Center
This month, the Big Ten CRC highlights the University of Illinois Cancer Center (UIC) as our featured member. UIC members Kent Hoskins, MD, Oana Danciu, MD, and Yu "Tom" Gao, PhD, have been collaborating on BTCRC-BRE15-016, a trial identifying exosome protein biomarkers in patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive breast cancer treated with palbociclib and tamoxifen.

Maakaron and Nadiminti appointed co-chairs of Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant Clinical Trial Working Group
Joseph Maakaron, MD, of the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota, and Kalyan Vara Ganesh Nadiminti, MBBS, of the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center have been appointed as co-chairs of the Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant Clinical Trial Working Group.

Ryan Wilcox, MD, PhD

Ryan Wilcox, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of hematology/oncology at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center and a member of the Big Ten CRC's lymphoid malignancies clinical trial working group. He has participated in two Big Ten CRC trials. Dr. Wilcox shares why he's glad to be part of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium.

Dwight Owen, MD, MSc

Dwight Owen, MD, MSc, is a medical oncologist and a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the OSUCCC James. Dr. Owen is a member of the Big Ten CRC's correlative sciences clinical trial working group and co-chair of the thoracic clinical trial working group.

Arnab Chakravarti, MD

Arnab Chakravarti, MD, is a professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He also holds the Klotz Chair in Cancer Research and is in the Translational Therapeutics Program at Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center.
