HOWAs Mission Vision and Values

Recently the Board of Trustees and the staff of Homes on Wheels Alliance (HOWA) met in our annual retreat to discuss how to best position the organization for the future while also retaining our founding principles. During many hours of discussion, we each shared our thoughts on the mission, vision, and values of HOWA. We agreed that our mission statement should be succinct and powerful and should express an easily understood visualization of our purpose. Our vision should capture what the world and nomad community would look like if we effectively pursue our mission, and our values should be the defining and guiding principles in how we conduct ourselves and our work.

Today we are proud to announce our updated mission and vision statements as well as our defining values. We hope that you and the entire HOWA community will embrace and support the future of the organization.

Updated Mission - Homes on Wheels Alliance supports nomads in need through training and resources while building an empowering and compassionate community.

Updated Vision Statement - Homes on Wheels Alliance envisions a future where nomads have the resources, knowledge, and community to thrive.

Values

Compassion - We pursue our mission utilizing kindness, empathy, and respect. Everyone is deserving of compassion, and it costs nothing to provide.

Community - We serve as a catalyst in bringing the nomad community together in support of one another and our collective goals.

Diversity - We celebrate, honor, and respect all of humanity and recognize we have more commonalities than differences. We believe the nomad community should welcome everyone from any background who shares our values.

Partnership - We recognize that we can only achieve our vision by engaging with individual, organizational, and public partners. Success is not success unless we achieve it together and share in its rewards.

Conservation - We understand that contemporary nomadism is a low carbon minimalist lifestyle that contributes less to climate change in comparison to traditional living styles. Adhering to Leave No Trace principles we leave the land better than we found it.

We hope you will find our updated mission and vision and our stated values as a useful guide to navigate the future.

Nomad Photo Contest Winner

Homes on Wheels Alliance is thrilled to announce the winner of the Nomad photo contest! This year’s grand prize goes to Mindy States, whose stunning image beautifully captures the spirit of life on the road. The contest showcased a diverse array of entries from talented photographers, but Mindy State’s work stood out for its creativity and emotional resonance. Mindy's photo is currently the featured image on the HOWA homepage! Congratulations to all participants for sharing their unique perspectives and experiences within the nomadic community! Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo.

Volunteer at the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous

We hope you are making your winter plans now to join the HOWA community in Quartzsite, AZ, for the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR) and Women’s RTR from January 8-16. As always, the W/RTR is free to attend and always will be, as it is an important part of HOWA’s mission to ensure that ticket prices do not limit anyone’s ability to come together in the community.

We invite volunteers to help make this event a success by assisting with registration, event coordination, and various activities. Volunteering offers a chance to connect deeply with the community while contributing to a meaningful experience for all attendees. To register and learn more about volunteer opportunities, please go here. Your support is invaluable!

Support the Nomad Community

Whether you choose to volunteer or simply attend the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, we ask for your financial support. Even though the W/RTR is free to attend, it is expensive to put it on. This is why we are asking the HOWA community to consider the following ways to support the W/RTR.

  • You as an individual, your organization, or your business can sponsor the event. This is a great way to both support the W/RTR and promote your work.
  • Donate gift cards. From lumber and screws to morning coffee to band-aids and everything in between, it gets expensive to put on a safe and comfortable event. Gift cards from businesses such as Walmart, Home Depot, and Albertsons go a long way toward offsetting those expenses. Digital gift cards can be emailed to rtr@howa.org, and physical gift cards can be mailed to HOWA 1970 N Leslie St Ste 297, Pahrump, NV 89060.
  • The W/RTR registration is now open. This is a great way to donate to the organization and reserve a one-of-a-kind RTR t-shirt for pick up at the event.
