Shaping the West: Colorado River Forum Set for Next Week in Phoenix

CSG West is excited to host the Colorado River Forum (CRF) next week! Led by CRF Co-Chairs Nevada Assemblymember Howard Watts and Wyoming Senator Larry Hicks, this year’s forum will take place November 17–20 in Phoenix, Arizona.


Designed for leaders in agriculture, energy, and water, the annual forum brings together legislators from Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming to discuss pressing issues and emerging opportunities in the Colorado River Basin.

State and Local Organizations Unite in Support of the Second Chance Reauthorization Act

CSG, along with several leading national associations, signed a joint letter urging Congress to reauthorize the Second Chance Act (SCA). This bipartisan legislation strengthens and expands reentry programs, offering essential services like career training, housing, childcare, and treatment for individuals with behavioral health and substance use disorders. 


In the letter, House and Senate judiciary committee leaders are encouraged to move forward with this vital legislation that empowers individuals, families and communities with resources to support the successful reintegration of those reentering society after incarceration.

New CSG Report Highlights State Efforts to Disconnect Students from Cellphones and Enrich Student Learning

Join State Leaders at the 2024 CSG National Conference in New Orleans

Each year, CSG convenes state leaders from all three branches of government, subject matter experts, and private sector and community partners from across the U.S. to share ideas and explore solutions to the complex policy issues facing the states. Working with fellow state leaders from across the country and across the aisle, attendees of the CSG National Conference will learn from each other and build relationships to help solve problems and shape public policy.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Western Legislative Academy

December 10-13

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Each year, state legislators from the western region are selected to participate in the Western Legislative Academy (WLA), a multi-day training experience focused on sharpening leadership skills needed to excel in a legislative environment. Faculty from academic, nonprofit, and legislative backgrounds engage class members in interactive sessions designed to provide a learning experience that expands understanding and fosters relationships.

 

The 53 members accepted to the WLA Class of 2024 will convene December 10-13 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Recognized as the premier training event for lawmakers in their initial four years of service, WLA has seen alumni ascend to key leadership roles, including presiding officers, majority and minority leaders, committee and caucus leaders, lieutenant governors, and members of the U.S. Congress.
