Rooney Properties has received unanimous approval to redevelop Robinson Terminal North on Old Town Alexandria’s waterfront. The $160 million project will bring 73 new residences, three restaurants, and over an acre of public open space to North Old Town, reports the Washington Business Journal.

Plans for the 3.2-acre site also include two mixed-use buildings, environmental remediation, and a pedestrian path, says ALX Now. Set at historic West’s Point along the Potomac River, the project marks a milestone in Alexandria’s ongoing push to reimagine its waterfront for a more connected, livable future.

Speaking of adaptive reuse, Alexandria continues to spearhead the conversion of office buildings into modern housing. A recent example is CityHouse Old Town, a former 1980s office building that has been transformed into nearly 200 apartments with terraces and skyline views. With over 3.6 million square feet of office space approved for residential conversion in the past decade, Alexandria is a national leader in turning underused buildings into vibrant places to live. Construction begins on The Heritage at Old Town, one of Alexandria’s largest affordable housing redevelopments to date, reports ALX Now. Located at 431 S. Columbus Street, the first phase will deliver 310 new apartments, including 100 affordable units, on the site of a former 1970s housing complex.
