We all like a good "before & after." Here's the Historical Room as it is now. Read on to learn about how we'll be getting to "after."
Dear GLF Friends,

Big things are happening at the Goodnow Library, and we at the GLF have great news to share with you: The Library is about to begin work on its renovation of the beautiful Historical Room!

At Town Meeting last September, $150,000 was approved from the Community Preservation Fund to support this transformational project. We are delighted to announce that members of the Goodnow family who live in the Midwest (MI, IL, and OH) and on the East Coast (MA, NY, and SC) have come forward and generously set a goal to raise $25,000 towards the additional $50,000 needed in order to complete this work.

The renovation is the GLF’s top funding priority. It is the final phase of the GLF’s ambitious “Reimagining the Second Floor” project that has supported the building of the Sara Sherman NOW Lab (makerspace), the modernization of the Teen Area, and the refurbishment of the Historical Octagon.

The Historical Room has been closed to the public for years in order to protect the Library’s collection of historical books, documents, maps, and artifacts. The upcoming renovation will allow it to be opened as a dedicated quiet area with an additional 35-40 workspaces. The increased space will allow the Library to serve a growing set of patrons including freelancers, remote employees, and students using it for work and study.

The renovation will include:

  • customizing storage and rehabilitating the shelving for the Library’s unique materials;

  • adding long tables with task lights and outlets and additional fabric armchairs for reading;

  • the installation of acoustical panels to mitigate noise.

With your financial support we can match the Goodnow family’s generosity to reach our $50,000 goal. Please consider making a special gift towards this very important project. We appreciate gifts at every level! You can learn more about the project HERE, or you can click directly HERE if you would like to contribute now.

With gratitude,

Holly
P.S. More great news! The Library returns to regular in-person summer hours TODAY. You will find us in the Lobby all day to greet Goodnow’s patrons. If you would like to visit the Historical Room, please email me at goodnowlibraryfoundation@gmail.com. I would love to walk you through the renovation plans in person!
Welcome to the Goodnow Book Nook! Our new online book sale is your 24/7 place to purchase gently used books while helping the Library. All proceeds from sales are used for the Library’s programming and activities.

In March the Goodnow Library Foundation partnered with the Library to host a contactless book drive. The drive exceeded all expectations with donations of an estimated 5,000-7,000 books! Now, we are delighted to be selling them via an ongoing virtual book sale. The Book Nook carries everything from thrillers to bestsellers to cookbooks to picture books. Here are a few highlights:

  • The Book Nook offers free delivery to seniors living in Sudbury;

  • You can purchase gift cards to the Book Nook;

  • Free delivery to teachers at Noyes, Haynes, and Nixon;

  • Because of the amazing number of books we collected in March, the Book Nook's selection changes weekly. Please continue to check back!
The GLF's annual gala is being reimagined for 2021! Please join us for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on Friday, September 17 to celebrate Goodnow's future. Invitations will be forthcoming this summer.
The Goodnow Library Foundation has a new website!

We're still adding to our new web home — so please keep checking back! — but we'd love for you to visit us at GoodnowLibraryFoundation.org, where you can learn a bit about the history of the GLF as well as some of our current projects.
Every gift makes an impact!
