Dear GLF Friends,
Big things are happening at the Goodnow Library, and we at the GLF have great news to share with you: The Library is about to begin work on its renovation of the beautiful Historical Room!
At Town Meeting last September, $150,000 was approved from the Community Preservation Fund to support this transformational project. We are delighted to announce that members of the Goodnow family who live in the Midwest (MI, IL, and OH) and on the East Coast (MA, NY, and SC) have come forward and generously set a goal to raise $25,000 towards the additional $50,000 needed in order to complete this work.
The renovation is the GLF’s top funding priority. It is the final phase of the GLF’s ambitious “Reimagining the Second Floor” project that has supported the building of the Sara Sherman NOW Lab (makerspace), the modernization of the Teen Area, and the refurbishment of the Historical Octagon.
The Historical Room has been closed to the public for years in order to protect the Library’s collection of historical books, documents, maps, and artifacts. The upcoming renovation will allow it to be opened as a dedicated quiet area with an additional 35-40 workspaces. The increased space will allow the Library to serve a growing set of patrons including freelancers, remote employees, and students using it for work and study.
The renovation will include:
- customizing storage and rehabilitating the shelving for the Library’s unique materials;
- adding long tables with task lights and outlets and additional fabric armchairs for reading;
- the installation of acoustical panels to mitigate noise.
With your financial support we can match the Goodnow family’s generosity to reach our $50,000 goal. Please consider making a special gift towards this very important project. We appreciate gifts at every level! You can learn more about the project HERE, or you can click directly HERE if you would like to contribute now.
With gratitude,
Holly
