July 9, 2021
Bonjour,
Despite the heatwave and some rainy days, we are loving every day's adventure of L'Ecole camp! We are so grateful to have so many smiling campers and counselors. These past weeks have been chock full of activity and creation!
Each week, groups of campers are practicing their French skills while doing hands-on activities, creating art projects, taking nature walks, and enjoying time for free play.
Please read on to see what each group has been up to!

Week 3 in Lydia, Sylvette and Zoé 's group, it was Flower Week.
We had a great week full of flower activities and the usual forest play, books on a blanket, and basic playground fun.
We gathered flowers in the field across the street, invited bouquets from families to decorate our classroom, painted with flowers, made flowers by gluing flower parts, cut flowers with scissors, decorated a sticky board collage, and created edible flowers with slices of watermelon and kiwi!
|
|
We talked about flowers and learned the vocabulary associated with flowers: petales, tige, feuilles, and we practiced finding each part.

From the mouths of babes -had to share... :-)
We read the book: Le Papa, ça sert a quoi? (What is a Papa for?)
Before we began, Lydia asked what the children thought their dads were good for.
Here were some great replies sure to be appreciated by all Papas!
- For making pancakes.
- If you're on the roof, you can't get you.
- Your dad helps you build a house.
- Because he looks for stories on his phone at bedtime
- Because you can hug and kiss him.

And last but not least, we went to the muddy stream where we saw water spiders, dug with sticks, and made a bridge! That won't be the last time!

Week 4 was Car and Tuck time, and Week 5 was Fairy Week!
Campers practiced writing with clipboards, making cars on black paper, painting a black road, driving with steering wheels, and played with play dough of course.
We also painted with trucks and hung the paintings like laundry for a very cool “installation “. We then painted a road and added "nos voitures".

|
The following week was fairy week and instead of human children, we had a group of magical beings! From their own magic wands to wings and crowns, campers learned about all things related to "les fées" :)

The McCormick dream team led the 5-6 year old group during Hannah's week off-- former EFDM students and brother and sister team of Ethan and Maggie are so much fun! Campers made jellyfish, played bingo, walked to their favorite summer beach spot, and have been having a blast during their free play indoors and out. After Hannah's return they ventured the ridge walk trail, played with a parachute, and even built a pirate ship out of the boxes from our newly installed bathroom sinks!!

Merci Jacob for keeping our big kids so engaged and busy with fun activities this summer!

Semaine 3 :
This week "the big kids" indulged in SCIENCE. We picked and labeled flowers in a segway from Explorer's Week and began some seed germination in plastic cups.
|
|
|
|
We also spent time with the younger groups picking some wild strawberries in the field close by the school.
|
|

Semaine 4 was Artists Week
This week we followed in the footsteps of various French artists. We started with Claude Monet and pointillism - creating a painting only using dots, then adding some 3D lily pads.
|
|
|
|
We went on to cover Paul Cézanne and his fruit paintings, Auguste Rodin, Georges Braques and others!
