Dear Fellow Alabama Optometrists,

I want to express my thanks and appreciation to all of you for the outstanding effort you have put forth over the past year on our scope update legislation. As you likely know by now, HB 349 passed the House on an overwhelming vote of 78-6, but died today in Senate Health Committee by a vote of 7-6. Following is a breakdown of the vote:

YES
Senator Lance Bell
Senator Billy Beasley
Senator Linda Coleman-Madison
Senator Robert Stewart
Senator Shay Shelnutt
Senator April Weaver

NO
Senator Tom Butler
Senator Donnie Chesteen
Senator Sam Givhan
Senator Tim Melson
Senator Dan Roberts
Senator Larry Stutts
Senator Jack Williams

Please take a moment to write a personal thank you to each of the Senators that supported us in committee today. You can mail them to 11 South Union Street; Montgomery, AL 36130. These Senators are true friends to optometry.

While we are disappointed in the outcome of today's hearing, I urge you to stay engaged in this effort. The ALOA is committed to moving the profession of optometry forward and your Hornet's Nest is alive and well.

Lasers in '24!

Sincerely,
Howard Day, O.D.
ALOA President
