Michigan’s 22nd House Districts include Northville (Wayne County), Northville Twp (part), Plymouth, Plymouth Twp (part), and western Livonia. As candidates announce, regardless of party, Musings will share information about them:
Meet Cathryn Neracher:
I’m running to serve as a Representative for Michigan’s 22nd House District because I’m tired and frustrated by so many things.
One of the many things I’m frustrated by is watching hardworking parents struggle with their children’s schooling and what their kids are being taught. These parents have shared their great concerns about masking, testing, vaccines, and virtual learning, as well as, the idea of their kids being sexualized and taught Critical Race Theory (CRT) to the school boards at meetings for months.
For the most part, their genuine concerns have fallen on deaf ears. Their microphones are getting cut off. One parent had the police call on her at a board meeting for not wearing a mask due to a legitimate medical exemption.
Parents do not have time to police their child’s school to make sure their kids aren’t being indoctrinated or put into situations that may cause physical harm.
And, they shouldn’t have to.
It is the NATURAL and FUNDAMENTAL right of parents to direct the care, teaching, and education of their children. Not the teachers. Not the school boards and not the State of Michigan. This right belongs to the parents. Period.
Notice it’s not a “suggested” right or a “sometimes” right. It’s a fundamental, natural right – meaning it’s GOD given. It’s the kind of right that can’t be taken away. It’s a desire inherent in every good and decent parent’s heart to raise their children according to their values, morals, and principles. Not the schools. Not the government.
Furthermore, notice this law directs the public schools to cooperate with parents. Not the other way around. It directs the schools to assist in developing, not determining, students’ intellectual and vocational capabilities and skills.
In other words, schools are responsible for teaching kids HOW to think and not WHAT to think.
Schools should be a place where children learn basic skills such as reading, writing, and math. It’s not a platform for anyone, no matter their politics, to cram their own personal feelings and views down the throats of students.
School should not be a place where a certain group of students is taught that the sins of this nation’s past are because of them. It should not be a place where children, yes children, are taught about sexuality in any way, shape, or form. That is the role of the parent.
Schools should not be determining the physical needs of the children. That, again, is a fundamental right reserved for parents.
To all the parents in the 22nd House District: I’ve heard you and I’m still listening! I stand behind you and if you decide to send me to Lansing to serve on behalf of you and your children, I will work hard with legislators to see to it that your fundamental rights as a parent are not infringed. I will do my best to make sure certain teachers and school board officials can no longer ignore you.
Every good and decent parent wants to leave their children better off than they were. I want to do the same as your legislator. I want to make sure that I can do whatever I can to make this a better community and state for generations to come.
