Shanelle Jackson, a former Michigan state representative from Detroit has announced that she will formally enter the race for Congress in February. She will run against incumbent Congresswoman Rashida Tliab.
Tlaib has represented Michigan’s 13th Congressional District since 2019 and plans to run for the open seat in the redrawn 12th district in the 2022 midterms this fall after Democratic Rep. Brenda Lawrence said she plans to retire.

Attorney, former deputy Wayne County Treasurer, former Wayne County Commissioner, and former state representative Philip Cavanagh, son of the late Detroit Mayor Jerome Cavanagh, announced Wednesday he will join the campaign against Rep. Rashida Tlaib in this year's Democratic primary for a redrawn district.
"Michigan’s new 12th U.S. Congressional District needs a representative that will work to build trust, respect, and relationships in order to deliver results to all the people of the District," he said in a statement taken from Deadline Detroit. "This will include someone with a vision for the future and willing to compromise to get results while never losing sight of the core values of all families in our region."
The primary election is on August 2.

Musings about the typewriter's favorite writer
The typewriter has long appreciated the writings of Franz Kafka, 1883 – 1924) a German-speaking Bohemian novelist and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic.
I have read The Trial dozens of times. It was made into a film directed by Orson Welles in 1961, at which time he said, "Say what you like, but The Trial is my greatest work, even greater than Citizen Kane."
I found a note by Dr. Kris Rizzotto who wrote in July of 2021 about Kafka, and true or not it makes for a great telling:
·
At 40, Franz Kafka (1883-1924), who never married and had no children, was walking through a park one day in Berlin when he met a girl who was crying because she had lost her favorite doll. She and Kafka searched for the doll unsuccessfully.
Kafka told her to meet him there the next day and they would come back to look for her.
The next day, when they had not yet found the doll, Kafka gave the girl a letter "written" by the doll saying "please don't cry. I took a trip to see the world. I will write to you about my adventures."
Thus began a story that continued until the end of Kafka's life.
During their meetings, Kafka read the letters of the doll carefully written with adventures and conversations that the girl found adorable.
Finally, Kafka brought back the doll (he bought one) that had returned to Berlin.
"It doesn't look like my doll at all," said the girl.
Kafka handed her another letter in which the doll wrote: "my travels have changed me." The little girl hugged the new doll and brought the doll with her to her happy home.
A year later Kafka died.
Many years later, the now-adult girl found a letter inside the doll. In the tiny letter signed by Kafka it was written:
"Everything you love will probably be lost, but in the end, love will return in another way."
Embrace change. It's inevitable for growth. Together we can shift pain into wonder and love, but it is up to us to consciously and intentionally create that connection.
The writer of this note is Latvian Brazilian organist Dr. Kris Rizzotto (they/them) received a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music from East Carolina University, and a Bachelor’s degree from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
