Volunteerism defines Livonia
|
Is your new year's resolution to volunteer in your community?
Join the Livonia Service Corps!
LSC is a group of volunteers who have raised their hands to be called on when a resident is in need of assistance due to physical and/or financial situations and is without family or friends who can provide support.
Some examples of requests the city might receive are emergency-based yard clean-up, snow shoveling, food delivery, minor home repairs, etc.
If you, or your organization, are interested in being a part of the Livonia Service Corps, please call (734) 466-2049 ext. 1 or email volunteer@livonia.gov.

She calls her retirement "bittersweet
Former LPS School Trustee retires
|
"Today was bittersweet and exciting; after 14 plus years at PVS Chemicals I retired today. I received some wonderful gifts from my coworkers and my friend Grace Grace Klemme Bayer. My family took me to lunch on Wednesday to Vivio’s in Eastern Market.
"I have waited impatiently for this day to come. I look forward to spending time with Bob, our children, and our grandkids. Going to our cottage on any day of the week sounds refreshing. We don’t have to rush on Friday nights after work and back home again on Sunday."

The Neighborhood Grant Program was established by the Livonia City Council to encourage residents to work collaboratively to foster a sense of community and actively participate in making improvements to their neighborhoods.
A maximum of $500 per neighborhood grant can be awarded for projects/events that support community involvement and reflect positively on the entire City.
The types of projects or events can include community art programs, community events - e.g., neighborhood parties (eligible only once), Rosedale Gardens Parade, public space landscaping/beautification, stewardship of neighborhood parks and common spaces, youth programs - e.g., Beverly Soccer League, Clements Circle Boy Scouts, etc.
Complete an online application (PDF) or pick one up in person at the Community Resources office on the fifth floor of City Hall. The application deadline is May 31, and funds must be spent and documented by Nov. 30. Some restrictions apply.

Mike Rudell, Musings go-to kayaker, runner, and parks explorer, offers up a recommendation that this typewriter just had to pass along. I don't kayak and stopped running 40 years ago.
It is so much fun to live vicariously through the ambitious:
"If you are looking for a beautiful place to enjoy nature all year round, then check out the 550-acre Holliday Nature Preserve that is in Livonia, Westland, and Canton.
"There are multiple entrances to this beautiful park and winter is an especially beautiful time to be there. I am so thankful that this little bit of land adjacent to the Middle Rouge River has been preserved for our use.
"Today on my lunch break, I ran 6 miles in the preserve over ice and through the snow. I saw deer, hawks, and a bunch of squirrels.
"The best part? I didn’t see any other people. Check out www.hnpa.org for maps, information, and more."

Brandon McCullough: What an incredible legacy. Bob Hardies kindness will live on for a very long time.
Carol Brodbectk: How very nice, Bill. Well, you got to me. Miss that guy (Bob Hardies) a whole lot!

Hockey Night in Westland
The typewriter just got my tickets for the Red Wings Alumni v the Wild Wings.
Will be there to cheer on Brandon McCullough who is on loan to the Wild Wings. Mayor Bill Wild skated with the Livonia All Stars v the Red Wings Alumni last fall so it is only fitting that Livonia loans one of our council folks for the Westland game.
