Thank you Class of 2021
1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame
|
The 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame,
Class of 2021 Induction Ceremony on Thursday, October 7th, 7:00, Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church.
Free and open to the public. We will adhere to Covid safe practices so we ask that masks be worn.
|
Reverend Kellie Whitlock, Introduced by Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan.
As pastor of Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, Rev. Whitlock takes her ministry into the community on a daily basis, believing that when a city and its faith communities work together, they are better equipped to address the problems and concerns of their hometown. She works to vitalize and strengthen the life of her congregation with the understanding that there are many paths to a more just world, and community organizing is one of them.
|
Tim Shaw, Introduced by Clarenceville Athletic Director Kevin Murphy.
Tim is a nationally recognized sports figure who achieved success but never forgot his hometown or the schools where he developed the skillsets to reach the top. His generous donation to the Clarenceville school district has made possible major improvements to the athletic field, saving the district over a million dollars. Now Tim is standing tall in his courage to fight ALS, which has diminished his physical strength but not his ability to share his story, thus giving hope to thousands of other ALS patients around the country.
|
Ron Reinke, Introduced by Livonia Parks and Recreation
Superintendent Ted Davis.
Ron is a leader who recognized that in order for Livonia to successfully serve its residents of all ages, it needed a parks system that would be the envy of communities across the State. He helped develop a parks system that enhances the quality of life in Livonia, providing recreational opportunities for teams and families alike. Livonia has benefited significantly because of his leadership.
|
The Late Alexander Wells, Introduced by Councilman Brandon McCullough.
Accepted by President Abraham Lincoln (Ron Carley).
Tonight we induct an early settler of Livonia who enlisted in the Civil War as the only African-American from Livonia, as part of an all-Black Brigade. Unfortunately, Alexander Wells died before he could be reunited with his family on the homestead they farmed at Seven Mile and Newburgh.
|
John and Lina Del Signore, Introduced by Councilwoman Laura Toy
John and Lina Del Signore opened Laurel Manor Banquet & Conference Center in 1989, with the simple philosophy of giving back to the community in as many ways as possible—from introducing leaders around the State to bringing thousands each year to Livonia as the Livonia go-to conference center. Their business hospitality team made popular the phrase heard around the State: “If we are going to have a conference, let’s meet in Livonia.” For decades, they have brought personality and professionalism to the brick-and-mortar concept of hospitality.

Carrie Budzinski for City Council
|
I have been overwhelmed by the amount of support I've received from residents throughout this campaign.
Thank you to everyone who came out today, to everyone who's been knocking doors, writing postcards, sending donations, hosting lawn signs + house parties, and sharing with friends/family/neighbors that I'm running for city council.
My main goal has been and continues to be connecting with as many Livonians as I can, I appreciate you helping make that possible. Only one month to go.

Dan Centers for City Council

Dan Centers offers his congratulations to the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

Ken Overwater for City Council
|
I've spent the summer talking to Livonia residents. Whether I've met them on their doorsteps out knocking doors, or at a community event, I've been inspired by their collective vision for the future of our City.
I'm running for Livonia City Council to be a public servant. I want to represent the people of this city to make their vision a reality. Whether it is infrastructure, programs for kids, ADA compliance, or recycling, every part of that vision deserves recognition and solutions-oriented discussion.
I hope to earn your vote this November, so that we can work together toward that shared vision for the place we call home.

Mitsy Morris from the Livonia Democratic Club Shoe Drive Committee writes that "On behalf of the Shoe Drive Committee, Carl Kedzierski, Lynn O’Neil, and myself, I’d like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to all those who participated in our inaugural Shoe Drive!
"If you donated shoes, thank you! If you were a drop-off location, thank you! If you picked up and dropped off shoes, many thanks! If you came to a Shoe Packing Party, hats off to you because we had a lot of shoes to pack! Job well done! And, if you are Carl Kedzierski, a special thanks for offering up your garage for what has turned out to be the extended-stay storage site of a rather large pile of shoes!
"All told, the official count is 3,528 pairs, or 141 bags, of shoes that were collected and bagged! While our goal was 2,500 pairs, or 100 bags, of shoes, we completely swamped that goal by 30%!
"There are two people who deserve special recognition for going above and beyond during the Shoe Drive: Barb Iovan and Louise Weller. Barb singlehandedly raised 1,354 pairs, or 54 bags, or approximately 38% of the total number of shoes collected! Louise’s house was a major hub for shoe drop-off; she bagged 32 complete bags of shoes, or 22%, all on her own (by the way, 25 pairs of shoes in one bag makes for one very heavy bag!) and then stored them in her garage! A very special thanks to our Shoe Drive Super Stars Barb and Louise!
"The 141 bags of shoes will be picked up in mid-to-late October. We will be receiving $1,000 for the 2,500 pairs/100 bags of shoes we took in and then an additional amount for everything above and beyond the 2,500 pairs/100 bags mark. We will advise the LDC when the total amount we earned is known.
"In the meantime, a committee is being formed to determine what Livonia organizations will be the beneficiaries of the total amount we raise. Stay tuned for all these exciting upcoming results!
"Again, many thanks! Because of you, our Shoe Drive is a resounding success!"
