A toast to Livonia and a
return to normalcy. Part two
|
In 1974 the City of Livonia applied for a $50,000 grant to create a community resource office which later under the direction of Joan Duggan became known as the Livonia Office of Volunteer Energies (The LOVE Office)
Years later with the passing of the Mayor's torch the title reverted back to the Community Resources Office. And with the passage of time a traditional volunteer lunch/breakfast, heck I can't remember I just know that there was food served, became a thing of the past.
We move out of the pandemic and move more and more into a community on the move, a move away from the status quo, from the lack of energy, and into the dynamic, progressive hometown that Livonia was known for over the decades.
Today while putting the pedal to the metal the current administration under Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan with administrative staff and department heads took appropriate time to say thank you to the volunteers on city boards and commissions, to acknowledge the important role the volunteer sector plays in making a complete community by engaging citizens and encouraging the adoption of city issues and more importantly solutions to those issues.
To top off the morning there was a presentation of the First Heart of Livonia Mayoral Award which was presented to Jason Adams who was nominated by Billy Keppen, Livonia Parks and Recreation. According to Keppen Jason asked to volunteer one year and has now pitched in and "helped in so many ways." The way he was described by Kleppen one could only picture the perfect volunteer who loves the community and loves to engage others in helping.
It was the second day this week, the first being the Mayoral Ball on Saturday and now Tuesday morning where Livonia has come out of the pandemic not satisfied to simply say it is a new normal we now can describe our hometown as coming out to a better normal.
47 years after that grant was written by the typewriter Livonia is still recognizing volunteerism and encouraging all of us to find our niche, go out and make an impact.
And wait until the new Livonia Service Corps is introduced. You ain't seen nothing of this better normal.

Trinity Health Michigan hospitals among most technologically advanced in America
The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) announced that all Trinity Health Michigan hospitals, which includes Mercy Health and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, have earned 2021 CHIME Digital Health "Most Wired" recognitions. The annual survey assesses how effectively health care organizations incorporate core and advanced technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities.
"Using innovative technologies, our teams are in constant search for opportunities that elevate the safety, enhance the hospital experience and improve the quality of care for our patients," said Shannon Striebich, president of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and senior vice president of operations at Trinity Michigan. "The communities we serve should know when you step foot into a Trinity Health hospital here in Michigan, you are receiving the most technically advanced care available in the country."
A total of 36,674 organizations were represented in the 2021 Digital Health Most Wired program, which includes four separate surveys: acute, ambulatory, long-term care, and international acute. The surveys assessed the adoption, integration, and impact of technologies in health care organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry-leading.
Each participating organization in the survey received a customized benchmarking report, an overall score, and scores for individual levels in eight segments: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/ population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety. Participants can use the report and scores to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Participants also received certification based on their overall performance, with level 10 being the highest. Trinity Health Michigan hospitals throughout the state each received Acute Level – 9 scores.

The Trinity Health Michigan hospitals recognized with "Most Wired" recognitions were: Mercy Health St. Mary's in Grand Rapids, Mercy Health Muskegon, Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, and St. Mary Mercy Livonia.
“Digital transformation in health care has accelerated to an unprecedented level since 2020, and the next few years will bring a wave of innovation that empowers health care consumers and will astound the industry,” said CHIME President and CEO Russell P. Branzell. “The Digital Health Most Wired program recognizes the outstanding digital leaders who have paved the way for this imminent revolution in health care. Their trailblazing commitment to rapid transformation has set an example for the entire industry in how to pursue a leadership vision with determination, brilliant planning, and courage to overcome all challenges.”

Carrie Budzinski earns a solid endorsement for Livonia City Council
|
I join with neighbors across our community that are ready to ensure that we elect this year candidates wanting to move off the status quo that has permeated our hometown over the past 8 years and help us move forward into a new generation of leadership.
Musings has identified two such candidates with incumbent Jim Jolly and challenger Dan Centers at the top of any list deserving for consideration of one of the four votes we each have this year.
One more such candidate worthy of a full-throated endorsement is Carrie Budzinski. From the time she announced she has defined the idea-driven campaign, policy ideas that were backed up with successful implementation, proving that she understands the process of creating change, enlisting support while engaging citizens to take ownership of the community.
She supported at-home compost pick up, but more than throw out an idea she shared with citizens how to connect with a local company that would weekly come by to pick up your composting material for a nominal charge and provide you with annual access to the compost for your gardens.
The typewriter signed up.
She then supported door-to-door recycling of electronics, paint, oil, etc. And she showed up across Livonia one Saturday and picked up what was left on the front porch and took it to the recycling facility for you.
The typewriter signed up.
|
She held dozens of meet and greets in citizens' homes, answering questions and engaging citizens in taking ownership of issues.
She has the endorsement of Congresswoman Haley Stevens, State Representative Laurie Pohutsky, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Sierra Club of Michigan.
Last weekend Carrie Budzinski and Moms for Carrie hosted a Halloween trick-or-treat in Mies Park with nearly 1,000 children, families, moms, and dads showing up.
|
She described the day as " amazing! Not only did we (myself and an AMAZING group of volunteers) greet many Livonians, we also welcomed guests from neighboring communities. I love being able to show off this city and I think we did a pretty great job today!
"No matter what happens on November 2nd these are the types of things you can expect from me. We may not be able to change the world but we can make a difference in our part of it. I am committed to doing my part and would love to be able to do more for Livonia as a member of City Council."
Carrie Budzinski is deserving of our full support on November 2nd. She is a candidate that can make a difference and has proven that every week on the campaign trail.
Musings is proud to solidly endorse for one of your 4 votes for Livonia City Council
Carrie Budzinski.
