October 24th, was Rotary's World Polio Day. As a polio survivor Nancy Darga is grateful for the commitment the Rotary Club took to eradicate polio worldwide.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that its African region is free of the wild poliovirus, five of the WHO's six regions, representing more than 90 percent of the world's population, are now free of the disease. It is still endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

This effort required incredible coordination and cooperation between governments, UN agencies, civil organizations, health workers, and parents. Rotary has pledged to raise $50 million per year for the next three years and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match this effort with $100 million per year.

Rotary run facilities worldwide is now serving as a global infrastructure for testing and treatment of COVID-19. I am holding my baby shoes which were nailed to a board so my legs could be stretched with leather belts tied to the end of a crib.

Terry Marecki and Martha Ptashnik (along with two future voters) lent their support for the Thin Blue Line Rally in Livonia.

A procession of cars and motorcycles, displaying Thin Blue Line and American flags, made their way from Ladywood to the Wilson Barn on the crisp fall day, where the participants enjoyed cider and donuts.

“It’s important that we show those that help keep us and our community safe that we have their back,” Commissioner Marecki explained.

“In these challenging times, we wanted to let the members of the Livonia Police Department and other brave men and women in law enforcement know that we appreciate and support them.”
Livonia bringing in the big names for campaigning

First it was Governor Gretchen Whitmer. This past weekend the Biden Bus was in town with Senator Gary Peters, Nancy Darga, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Representative Laurie Pohutsky, Congresswoman Debra Dingell (pictured here), and Congresswoman Haley Stevens (pictured here).

Monday Smile
What a smile these pictures bring. Last year the Clarenceville High School football team was unable to field enough players and had to cancel games.

But not this year. With a new coach and team ready to play and succeed they have won their League Championship.

Congratulations to the Clarenceville Trojans with a special thanks to the Seniors.

Laurie Pohutsky is the candidate for State Representative supporting Livonia values
The race with most attention in Livonia pits incumbent State Representative Laurie Pohutsky and challenger Martha Ptashnik.

The Republican establishment has spent over $400,000 in an attempt to take back what they feel is their seat in the legislature. Their hand picked candidate two years ago, Brian Meakin, was defeated by Pohutsky in a stunning upset.

The Republican establishment brought in 14 members of the State legislative Republican caucus to go door to door. They see the polls, one has Pohutsky up by one and another has Pohutsky up by five.

She just plain outhustled Meakin, picked the right issues of clean water and support for Livonia education priorities; concentrating on issues that affected Livonia, representing Livonia values.

This year is no different. Pohutsky has proven by her votes that she is the one candidate supporting public school education in Livonia. She has been accessible, available and aware of the needs of our hometown.
Ptashnik was the handpicked candidate of the Livonia establishment Republicans and a favorite of the Lansing insider lobbying organizations. Or correctly identified as the handpicked candidate of the Grand Rapids for-profit charter schools wanting to take more money away from our historical public schools.

While running as a public school teacher she is not telling voters of her endorsement of the Grand Rapids crowd who want to take money from the Livonia public schools, Livonia and Clarenceville, provide it to the for-profit charter schools, allowing the money to be shipped to whatever district around the state and nation in which they own charter schools. Our tax dollars leaving Livonia to support schools in which we have no say.

Ptashnik is not supportive of Livonia values.

Add to that her belief that marriage should only be between a man and woman and you find another issue that runs counter to the values of Livonia as every national poll shows. Gallup polling sets support at 67%.

Ptashnik is not supportive of Livonia values.

Also add to that her support for teachers having guns in the classroom and you again find her out of line with the majority of voters. Even teachers, 73%, oppose teachers having guns in the classroom.

Ptashnik is not supportive of Livonia values.

FridayMusings solidly endorses Laurie Pohutsky for re-election. Not on personality or politics but solidly on issues that affect Livonia.
