This weekend was the time for competing marches. One on Saturday hosted by Right to Life – LIFESPAN Wayne County Chapter. The other Sunday hosted by Peaceful Women's Protest March.

I found out about the Lifespan march as I drove down Farmington Road and noticed the red shirts heading south past the Planned Parenthood offices. The walk began at St. Rafka, passed the Planned Parenthood facility & Livonia Civic Center near Farmington & 5 Mile, then returned to St. Rafka. The marchers were treated with cider, doughnuts, a t-shirt, and a vote no on Proposition Three yard sign. A minimum pledge of $20 per adult or $10 per child under 18 was asked for at the Cider walk.

I was invited to the Protest March on Sunday. A march from Rotary Park to Farmington and Seven Mile. Between 100-150 marchers were treated with, well nothing, and paid the same amount to march. Just the feeling that they were doing something they had to do, show support for a yes vote on Proposition Three. No pledge or contribution was asked for.

Women's Protest March, neither of whom wanted a serious discussion, one yelling at cars and the marchers with her sign and one videotaping the march as he wore a Trump t-shirt.

This typewriter doesn't care what side you march in support of as it signifies your engagement. I have my own view as I am voting yes on Proposition Three, but it still made me feel good to see the 50 or so Lifespan marchers, young and old. They returned to the church, had some cider, got in their car, and headed home having made a statement. Good for you.

Not able to walk the three miles with the Peaceful Women's March as I am getting ready for back surgery on Friday I met up with them at the start, drove to Farmington and Seven, and participated in some good old-fashioned picketing.

Hometown engagement on must discuss substantive issues. Gotta love Livonia.

The Bodyguard is celebrating her birthday !!

Eleanor Roosevelt wrote she thought that at a child's birth if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.

Since meeting Kathy the bodyguard at my front yard bake sale in 2004 raising $1,100 for the John Kerry Presidential campaign, she brought a German Chocolate Cake, the world has opened up with shared experiences, shared based on curiosity. Travels to Mount Vernon, and Annapolis, visits to Detroit neighborhoods, North Carolina, trips to Georgia and Colorado, lunch at Win Schulers, travels along the sunrise coast of Michigan, landscaping, meeting Livonia folks, creating a Corn Roast, building a Hall of Fame. So much to fill the past 18 years. So full of fun. So full of curiosity.

Every day something new is filled with curiosity. Curiosity encouraged by Kathy.

Happy Birthday Kathy Ventittelli. As Pablo Picasso said, "It takes a long time to become young."

You are on your way to the continuation of living young.

Star Parker Livonia visit canceled

Ken Crider, the Republican candidate for State Senate, dropped a dime to Musings with this note, "We received a message Monday that Star Parker is in the hospital and has canceled all engagements this week, including the two events she was scheduled for in the Detroit area. Pray for a speedy recovery. Thanks again for the mention."

Musings readers donate for Engineering

This typewriter asked if you would join with Masco, AlphaUSA, and Livonia Kids & Families to supplement the equipment already in place, the electrical power set up, the students already working and learning at the Nick Strumbus workstations.

There was a need for supplies. The rolls of materials for the 3-D printer, sheets of special lumber for the laser printer, and electronic circuit boards.

With your help, Musings readers have made this a community partnership. Reaching $1000 in two days.

The first day of the request our readers stepped up. Donations included $50 from AH, $50 from GS, $100 from KB, $50 from TI.

On Monday the mail delivered $25 from AB, $25 from LB, $50 from DB, $30 from LB, and an email committing $100 from Kiwanis Early Risers. Plus a $500 match for the first $500 raised.

If you are able to partner with us simply send a check made payable to Clarenceville Public Schools. We will bundle the checks and present them to the Engineering Lab teacher Deb Kummer.

Seedlings Partners with Blessings in a Backpack to collect Mac & Cheese

Now through October 31, Seedlings is collecting Mac & Cheese for Blessings in a Backpack. In fact they have already collected over 300 boxes.

If you would like to donate Mac & Cheese, any brand works, simply bring them to the Seedlings office collection box located in their lobby at 14151 Farmington Rd. Livonia 48154.

Seedlings is open Monday – Friday 9 - 5.

They are asking that you not bring single-serve microwavable cups as Blessings in a Backpack is in need of boxes of macaroni and cheese.

LDC Partners with

YOU ARE LOVED

to help the homeless this winter

The Livonia Democratic Club (LDC) is pleased to be working with a new community outreach partner, You Are Loved. This great organization collects sleeping bags, clothing, toiletries, etc. for the homeless in downtown Detroit.

As part of a winter outreach project, they will be collecting the following items:

Size Large and X-Large sweatshirts and sweatpants
Warm winter gloves
White crew socks

Bring your unwrapped donations up until November 5th to the Livonia Senior Center located at 15218 Farmington Road. They have a box in the lobby for your donations. Please make sure you put your items in the LDC donation box (as there is another box in the lobby collecting donations). Our donation box is clearly labeled LDC.
