The election next Tuesday should be based on Livonia's quality of life; satisfaction, including health, family, education, safety, parks, open space, and the environment among other things.
Having talked with all the candidates NOT ONE supports DEFUNDING THE POLICE. Regardless of whom, you are supporting this issue is off the table.
Three candidates have taken the quality of life to the top of the campaign discussion. Incumbent Jim Jolly, and challengers Dan Centers and Carrie Budzinski.
Jolly has shown his dedication to quality of life not only with acknowledged support for the transformation of Greenmead but the showcasing of his family activities across a spectrum of community organizations, Little League Football/cheerleading, Girl Scouts, Fun Run to support Run to Save our Youth. Involvement supporting Livonia's quality of life.
Carrie Budzinski shows her dedication to quality of life with her weekly listing of Livonia family activities. She does not stop there as she takes Livonia residents on tours of our park sites, showcasing all the activities available to families from the library to the arts. She like Jolly does the walk, not just the talk, on Livonia's quality of life. She is a policy and follow-through driven candidate.
One other candidate is a strong supporting Livonia's quality of life. Dan Centers is a strong advocate for the quality of life found in our public school system. Understanding Livonia as a lifetime resident and graduate of Livonia public schools we need the recognition that he brings on the issue of cooperation between our schools and our community. Add to that his working relationship with our state officials, Dayna Polehanki and Laurie Pohutsky, and County Commissioner David Knezik and you have a candidate that can and will open doors of cooperation on our city infrastructure, seek out funding for our city services, and parks, and create a dialogue that can only benefit our hometown.
We encourage readers of Musings to cast your first three votes for Jolly, Centers, and Budzinski.
Jolly, Budzinski, and Centers. 3 Livonia quality of life candidates deserving of your votes.
One other candidate although less well-known is Ken Overwater. He is a strong advocate of the arts which is a key component of a community's quality of life. He supports maintaining our parks, adequately funding our public safety officers, two other pillars of quality of life. Throughout his career as a public defender, he’s spent every day on the job advocating for people when they need it most. He is committed to expanding access to the things that make Livonia a great place to live, and continuing to listen to the concerns of Livonia residents.
We encourage readers of Musings to cast one of your four votes for Ken Overwater.
Jolly, Budzinski, Centers, Overwater. 4 Livonia quality of life candidates deserving of your votes.
Laura Toy has been involved in Livonia's quality of life issues for over 4 decades since organizing the Livonia Environmental Center in 1974. Over the years she has been a proponent for a community amphitheater and an urban forestry project proposed by Chris Last to use trees in a creative manner instead of simply grinding them into mulch. But these issues once raised by Toy do not go anywhere. It is time for Toy, in what she arguably says is her last term/election, to move her creative ideas into the implementation stage. Her institutional knowledge could be a real asset.
We encourage Musings readers to consider Laura Toy for one of your votes. Any combination of Jolly, who should be the Council President, Budzinski, Centers, Overwater, and Toy would show support for the Vision 21 plan, for the agenda of Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan, and will support with creative ideas the continuation of Livonia quality of life.
Please vote November 2nd and consider selecting four candidates from these Livonia quality of life candidates, Jolly, Budzinski, Centers, Overwater, Toy. Now it is your turn and I will respect your vote as long as you vote.
