Congratulations to the winners for Livonia City Council
Ken Overwater, Dan Centers, Carrie Budzinski
|
|
For 18 years FridayMusings has taken election results and congratulated the real winners in every city election. The winners are those candidates who took the time out of their lives to seek public office. They may have fallen short of the goal they wanted but in my estimation, they are the winners as those who received the most votes have only proven that they can run a campaign not what they will do once sworn in.
Those with the most votes, in this case, Jim Jolly, 13681, Laura Toy, 13517, Rob Donovic,12402, and Scott Morgan,10890 have not done anything yet except win a campaign. We need to give them time in office to prove that they understand what it means to be an elected official and that they will follow through on the promises made on the platform they ran on.
So, thank you Ken Overwater, Dan Centers, and Carrie Budzinski. You are the real winners. It is my hope that you will continue your involvement and consider running again in the future.

A message from Matt Kulacki
The final checks have shown up and cash processed! I know you guys have been patiently waiting for a total!!!
Well, our grand total this year is a smashing $112,907.
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for another amazing job this year! 2021 was another year of uncertainty for us. What we would be able to do and when… Major date changes, new outdoor events, and a whole lot of audibles (amazingly handled by our volunteer staff, I might add!).
This year was particularly spectacular. EVERYONE stepped up in such a huge way! Prior to this year, we only had 2 fundraisers go over $10,000 on the year. This year (once all the money gets allocated that was sent in finds its home) we will have 4 fundraisers over 10k!
HUGE SHOUT OUT TO VINCE AUSTIN SETTING A NEW RECORD OF $13,711!!! TO HEATHER MAC FOR CRUSHING AN AMAZING $11,329 AND KEEPING VINCE ON HIS TOES THIS YEAR! AND MYSELF AND MR DANIEL BRINKER BRINGING IN SPOTS 3 AND 4 RESPECTIVELY!
That’s not all that is impressive! We had 10 fundraisers over $2,000, 22 over the $1,000 mark, and 30 over $500!! To everyone else, it doesn’t matter if you raise a dollar or 10,000… It is more then we started the day with and that dollar could be the dollar that cures cancer! So thank you to each and every one of you that raised funds this year. Way to show up and show out all!!! So proud and honored to be associated with this amazing group!
To our Sponsors/Donors, thank you! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Tito’s Handmade Vodka, your constant support has definitely made you our number one partner over the years. To First Centennial title, our now 2 time Platinum sponsor, You Are amazing! John Yu at the Pro Sports Zone… You always have the coolest items to donate to our raffles! The money raised off of those over the years has been greatly appreciated!
Keller Williams Professionals for their Gold level Sponsorship!! Gotta love my KW Family! The volunteers from Westland target! Aman at Little Blondie Microphones for making our amazing promo commercial! As well as everyone else who donated items, or funds to our event season… Thank you.
To our Venues. Bicentennial Park: That was fun huh!? Who wants to see us do this again!? This was a bit of a trial run and we will have to adjust prices for things accordingly to ensure the organization takes home enough to justify keeping this one. But we feel like everyone loved it and it was a great atmosphere!
The 1UP Arcade bar. Adam and Bao have become a staple on our tour and we are proud to become close enough to call you all family. You guys are amazing people through and through. We love you guys.
And One Under Craft Beer and Eats. To Lauren, Brian, Steve, and the rest of the One Under staff… You guys are great. Thank you for allowing us to take over and run our crazy show! Last year out in the parking lot was a bit of a challenge, but we wrangled everyone in for a fun, safe, and sanitary event this year in the new addition with the garage doors rolled up and the good times rolling in! Tons of fun! Don’t worry, we’ll get the technical side of things with the mics and such taken care of for next time!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Our volunteer event staff. Robb, Erin, Scott, Jason, Lisa, Johnny, Dayna, Tabi, and Heather… You keep me sane throughout this time of the year. There is no way I would be able to pull this off without your friendship and support. I truly love you guys and am so excited for the future of OUR event!!
We will try and have the event date posted asap and next years page live as soon as we can! We will try and curb confusion by hammering out a true date right off the rip, so we aren’t changing things along the way.
The biggest thing for the offseason is to keep pushing guys. Tell your friends, family, and co-workers what you do. WHAT WE DO! Get them involved! We need to keep up our participation numbers as we make our MILLION DOLLAR MARCH (1 million raised by our event) next year!
Thank you all. If you need anything during the “off-season”, please, don’t hesitate to reach out for anything Baldrick’s related, Real Estate related, or anything in between… I am here to help!!

Halloween was a blast!
Rosie the Riveter and her Bomber Pilot Boyfriend left the candy distribution at Arden Street to Rory, Gabriel, Joshua, Finnegan, and Maia and headed out with Livonia’s Finest to hand out candy in the neighborhoods. The costumes and holiday spirit were amazing this year!

The McCullough Family says they had
Halloween Nights!
|
The Jim Jolly children know how to have fun on Halloween. They look like they are ready to collect some candy.
|
Livonia Police enjoy treating on Halloween
|
We hope everyone had a fun and successful Halloween! As always, our officers were out in full force throughout the city keeping everyone safe and passing out candy to the trick or treaters. As seen in the pictures below, Acting Chief Goralski, Captain Yon, and Mayor Brosnan were out in the neighborhoods with bags of goodies for the children.

On Thursday, November 4th at 5:30 in the afternoon, at the Wilson Barn residents of southeast Livonia will be meeting with Councilman Brandon McCullough and Councilwoman Laura Toy to discuss strategy on opposition to the proposed 3-4 story apartment complex with the potential of 200 units.
This development proposed by Schostak will be directly behind homes on Orangelawn Ave and directly behind Hillcrest Avenue homes.
The flyer in circulation announcing the citizen's group opposing the Schostak development says to "please join us in our effort to stop 100's of people from living in our backyards."
Several council candidates received checks from Schostak including Jim Jolly, Brandon McCullough, and Rob Donovic. Jolly and McCullough returned the checks back to Schostak. Donovic to date has not returned the check.

Rotary Club Meeting
October 20, 2021
Mike Ladwig, President
Our guest speaker was Bill Joyner of Friday Musings fame. Bill spoke of his Mother having Polio and how that experience touched his family. Bill gave some observations about the many Livonia service clubs and what they mean to the health of our community. He singled out the many great works of our club specifically.
Bill gave us an overview of Livonia’s Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast held recently by Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan.
Bill is a special friend of Rotary's and it is always a pleasure to have him address the club.

County Executive Warren Evans Congratulates Livonia's Wafa Dinaro
Crain's 40 Under 40
|
Congratulations to our Economic Development Director Wafa Dinaro for receiving the Crain's Detroit Business 40 Under 40 Award! Wafa has been doing a great job and she is well-deserving of this recognition for her hard work and dedication on behalf of the people of Wayne County. From Crain's:
"Career trajectory: Dinaro, a Dearborn native, came out of the University of Michigan’s political science program in 2004 and went to work for the U.S. Department of Defense as a globe-trotting intelligence officer, working on the ground in multiple foreign countries for most of her 20s.
She and her husband came back to Michigan in 2011 to start a family and her career veered from foreign affairs into communications and marketing at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and project management at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles."
In response Wafa Dinaro says she is so "honored to be on the Crain's 40 under 40 list. I'm so thankful to be working for an organization that empowers women and values hard work. Thank you always to my boss Warren C Evans and to Khalil I. Rahal who gave me the opportunity."

Laurie Pohutsky testifies in Lansing
"Today I spoke before the House Judiciary committee in support of HB 4699, my bill to close a loophole in MI law that allows for marital rape in some cases. It’s long past due that we eliminate this exemption and I was grateful to my colleagues for their attention to the issue."

School Safety Matters — Join Me!
Threats of violence against our school board members and school employees working under extremely difficult circumstances to protect our children and keep schools open are unacceptable.
That’s why my Senate Democratic colleagues and I have introduced legislation, Senate Bill 689, to make it a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to a year, or a fine up to $1,000, or both, for people who assault, batter, wound, or endanger a school employee, school contractor, or member of a school board.
Enough is enough. We can have disagreements and discussions about various school policies, but as adults and role models for our children, they must remain civil. If you, a relative, or a friend have been harassed or threatened while performing your duties as a school official and are willing to share your story to demonstrate the need for this legislation, please visit SchoolSafetyNow.com to tell us about it.
We see you. We hear you. We are working to protect you.
Republican School Voucher Scheme Clears Senate
This week, Republicans sought to curry favor to their wealthy donors by passing legislation that would provide a tax credit to wealthy individuals or corporations who effectively “sponsor” a child’s non-public school education. More simply put, these bills are about expanding school vouchers, and they are unconstitutional, as they interweave public resources for private purposes.
Worse, they would take hundreds of millions of public dollars from public schools and gift them to private schools. I have no issues with private schools and those who choose them — but that is a choice. Our constitution protects public education, and subsequently, our public taxpayer dollars that are intended to be used for them.
A well-educated population is a must-have for all businesses and communities, but the effort passed by my Republican colleagues this week is merely another DeVos-backed attempt to privatize education. These bills would provide high-quality education for the wealthy while stripping the state of the vital funds needed to provide a high-quality education for ALL our children. I voted no on this legislation.
EXPEDITE DISTRIBUTION OF COVID-19 VACCINES TO KIDS
On Tuesday, Oct. 26, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive directive, requiring that state departments and agencies expedite the ordering and distribution of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric coronavirus vaccinations to protect younger Michiganders between the ages of 5 to 11 years old, and to ensure that students could continue in-person learning in a safe environment this year.
The Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) met on Oct. 26 to discuss emergency use authorization of the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for children. After this meeting, the VRBPAC issued their recommendation to the Center for Disease Control's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which is scheduled to meet Nov. 2-3 to review data and recommendations. ACIP is anticipated to issue a recommendation, which will go to the CDC for final approval of the emergency use authorization.
Based on data provided by Pfizer, the vaccine was shown to be nearly 91% effective during the trial at preventing the symptomatic disease from COVID-19 in the age group. The directive also requires the State of Michigan to regularly report the proportion of children ages 5 to 11 who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. To date, nearly 69% of Michiganders 16 years or older and 66.9% of Michiganders 12 years or older have received at least their first dose of one of the three safe, effective vaccines.
