New transformative holiday celebration set for December
Livonia Chamber of Commerce
Greenmead to be transformed this Winter
as Parks and Recreation set to partner with Chamber of Commerce and a number of hometown businesses

Ted Davis, Director of the Livonia Parks and Recreation, and Dan West, President of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce have been talking for much of the past year on how to bring people to Greenmead with unique, hometown events and recognize it as a true Livonia gem.

Talk led them to a visit to Campus Martius in Detroit and plans began to be developed to first bring people to Greenmead over the holiday as a Livonia destination location and to then build it for future holidays becoming a western Wayne County holiday destination.

A vendor has been lined up for holiday lights and refreshments. 10 major sponsors have been lined up to make it happen in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce.

West and Davis met up with Dan MacIver, President Financial & Portfolio Advisors, at the Blue House to receive the first donation, "I feel great helping bring people to Greenmead. This is a perfect event for families. I can't wait to see it build."

The decoration of the Alexander Blue House and adjacent trees will include an expansive holiday-light display. Add to that a historic wagon with hot chocolate and, ready for this, a 35 by 80 ice rink next to the Blue House.

Now of course the ice rink will be contingent on the weather. 60 degrees and sun, well, you get the picture.

So picture driving up to see Santa Claus, December 5, 12, 19, on the front porch, a bench by the front steps for children to sit, lights adorning the Blue House. Look over to the north and there is the historic Newburgh Church adorned in white lights. Wow. The first year with on-going planning to transform Greenmed into a Christmas Village -- hopefully continuing in a post-Covid world in December 2021.

Details to come.
Greenmead is only one of three Livonia holiday celebrations. It only gets better.

With the Livonia Holiday Parade, rapidly becoming a family tradition, on hold for another year what better temporary replacement than a Livonia "Drive Through Parade" the first weekend in December, that takes you and me and friends and neighbors through the Civic Center Park, from the Courthouse through to Farmington Road. Along the way there will be lights, a band or two, tentative while working out the details on which and number of school marching bands, and of course Santa Claus.

Head down to Hines Drive for their light show and now this year drive over to Five and Farmington on December 6th, for a hometown Drive Through Parade. Details to come.

Livonia Holiday turns the technology corner

Remember how it was during Halloween? Driving neighborhoods looking for decorations. Asking folks on Facebook for recommendations. Well, this year there is an opportunity to blend holiday decorations and high technology. That's right. Our Parks and Recreation will be collecting names and addresses of those homes whose owners want to share with Livonia neighbors beyond their neighborhood. The addresses will be placed on a map that can be accessed on your cell phone.

Imagine, finish up dinner at home, bundle up the children, hop in the family sedan, drive around Livonia enjoying family lights and decorations.

Details are being worked out and will be announced soon but just image Livonia as the holiday, technology center of southeast Michigan.
