This Thanksgiving you can be a part of the Livonia BeKind initiative!
While you are out doing your holiday shopping pick up a $5 gift card, or two or maybe even three, to your favorite Livonia business and donate it to the Be Kind Livonia project!
This project has been uniting Livonia all year with families picking up a BeKind yard sign, taking pictures at banners outside of our Library, City Hall, or School Board offices.
The #BeKindLivonia campaign was borne of the success of The Blessing Bag Project, founded by Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church in 2017. Over the last several years, RGPC collaborated with the City of Livonia and the Livonia Police and Fire Departments to deliver blessing bags to thank and show appreciation to community groups, That meant delivering pizza and gifts for the caring staff at St. Mary Mercy Hospital working on Christmas Eve in 2018 and gift bags for hundreds of Livonia’s disabled veterans in 2019.
Each and every school in both Livonia and Clarenceville districts will be served breakfast and staff will be given gift cards this December, as a way to show appreciation for the challenges they've faced during the pandemic. If you would like to make a donation to support this year’s Blessing Bag effort one way is to please visit Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church's website. After you pick up your gift cards you can drop them off at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall or deposit them in the red mailbox outside City Hall. Please be sure to put them in a sealed envelope and write Be Kind on the outside. Thank you for helping us say THANK YOU to our Livonia and Clarenceville teachers and support staff.

NEW MAP FOR COUNTY COMMISSION DISTRICTS
Lost amidst the on-going confusion and controversy over new district maps for congressional, state senate and house seats being considered by the Michigan Redistricting Commission, on November 9 the Wayne County Apportionment Commission quietly and unanimously adopted a new map for Wayne County Commission districts.
Following a procedure mandated by state law and the Wayne County Charter, the county Apportionment Commission meets every ten years. They have been meeting since August to consider new proposed maps necessitated by population changes within Wayne County based on the 2020 federal census. The law requires that district maps meet population, community of interest, compactness and other legal requirements. Because of significant population losses in Detroit, and population gains in other communities, particularly Dearborn and Canton Township, the County Commission districts had to be re-configured for elections beginning in 2022.
Based upon the map adopted in 2011, since 2012 the City of Livonia has been split between two County Commission districts, with the majority of the city in District 9, (along with the City of Northville and Northville Township), and a small southeastern area in District 8 (along with Redford Township and the City of Dearborn Heights).

In the new map which was approved, northern Livonia will still be in District 9 (along with the City of Northville, Northville Township, and most of Plymouth Township), while the southern portion of the city will now be in District 12 (along with the City of Westland). The new District 9, represented by Terry Marecki, will be north of Five Mile Road from Inkster to Merriman, and north of Schoolcraft Road from Merriman to the western city boundary.

Commissioner Terry Marecki commented: “While disappointed to lose an area of the city that I have represented in one way or another for the past 20 years, I’m gratified that the majority of Livonia will still be in District 9. I’m excited and look forward though to working with the people and elected officials in Livonia, Northville Township, the City of Northville, and Plymouth Township.”
Commissioner Glenn Anderson, who currently represents District 12, observed: “I’m excited to once again have the opportunity to represent a portion of Livonia. Having represented the fine citizens of this great city during my 8 years as Michigan State Senator, I formed a strong bond with its people. I look forward to once again working for Livonians, along with residents of Westland, in my capacity as Wayne County Commissioner.”

Look who stopped by our Livonia City Hall this week!
Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan said it was "Great catching up with representative Haley Stevens and representative Debbie Dingell, two of the women working hard in Washington DC to make sure Livonia gets the funding we need to build a new and improved senior center. American Rescue Plan Funds are a big part of how Livonia plans to come back stronger and healthier following Covid-19."
This could be a foreshadowing of a future transition as one of the potential maps for Congressional redistricting has a new district with Livonia represented by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell.

Greenmead holiday gathering takes next step with more lights, activities
The Livonia Night of Lights program initiated last winter to brighten the Greenmead Historic Village will grow to provide more lights, more activities, and more fun this upcoming holiday season.
With Covid restrictions limiting social interactions last winter, Livonia Parks and Recreation and the Livonia Chamber of Commerce combined to provide a new outdoor experience for families to enjoy lights and see Santa Claus.
Thanks to business sponsorships, the Alexander Blue House and surrounding yards were colorfully decorated throughout December which created a great stage for Santa to meet people on the porch of the House for Saturday and Sunday evening.
This December, the effort will expand to add lights to five more historic structures and numerous trees on the Greenmead campus, located on Newburgh south of Eight Mile.
“This is the next step in growing this into, what we believe, will be a regional holiday attraction,” said Parks and Recreation Superintendent Ted Davis. “This is a great, new holiday experience for the entire family.”
There will be new weekend activities designed to entertain people of all ages. New this year will be children’s arts and crafts inside Newburg School, and a heated hospitality tent with outside firepits for sales of alcoholic beverages, snacks, warm beverages, and soft drinks for public gatherings on the weekends. There will be street hockey rinks in the parking lot, and choir performances at Newburg Church at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays.
Admission will be a $10 suggested donation per vehicle for the activities during the weekend evenings of December 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19. Some event proceeds will be used to support Friends of Greenmead and the Livonia Anniversary Committee. The activities will be open from 5-10 p.m. on the Friday and Saturday dates and 5-8 p.m. on the Sunday dates.
The community holiday festivities will shift to the Livonia Civic Center area on Sunday, December 5, starting with the annual parade at 4 p.m.
“There were many Livonia residents who had never been to Greenmead before who visited last year,” said Livonia Chamber of Commerce President Dan West. “We expect more people to enjoy the village this year as we look to grow this event even more in the future.”

"For this to happen, we are looking for four teams of at least 15 runners as this would be 5v5. We are also looking at Devonaire ice arena at the home, season would run from April through August.
