We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will only give us mediocre outcomes.

Our goal in Livonia needs to be innovative and transformative.

Some candidates running for school board support more options as in wanting more charter schools. You don't vote for school boards running charter schools. To have more say in education then we benefit by electing Colleen Burton, Liz Jarvis and Emily Keith.

opens today and runs from November 7-13.

The exciting items include two nights at the Grand Hotel, lunch for five with Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan, a foursome at any of the three Livonia golf courses, a one-hour photo session with Katelynn Lucas, Detroit Zoo membership for 4 children and 2 adults, dinner with Councilman Brandon McCullough, any number of oil changes, wine club memberships, and on and on with now 238 items ready for you to bid.

On, and don't forget lunch with the typewriter on my dime. This is the 4th year this prized item has been auctioned. True story. People pay to have lunch with this short, chubby, purveyor of Livonia's happenings.

Musings looks forward to helping Seedlings out again as they reach for their goal of $50,000. Can't wait to announce their total on the 14th. Am betting that the largess of Seedling supporters will put them over the top. Let's do it friends of this awesome program that ships braille books to all 50 states and countless countries worldwide.

Battle on the Ice Game Two featuring Detroit Red Wing Alumni versus

Livonia All-Stars set for January

Plans are tentatively underway for the January 29th Detroit Red Wing Alumni v Livonia All-Stars Battle on the Ice Part Two

with a 1:00 puck drop at the Eddie Edgar Ice Arena.

The All-Stars will again be captained by Brandon McCullough and will feature a number of first responders. Rumors that the typewriter will be on the ice are just rumors.

One new addition this year will have the Livonia Mites, 6 to 8 year old's, skating with teams during warmups.

Proceeds from Game Two will benefit Livonia Kids and Families. In addition to the LKF partnership, it is anticipated that the Rotary Clubs of Livonia will play a role in managing game day operations.

Major sponsors so far of the event include F&PA, AlphaUSA, UPS Store, Five and Newburgh.

Missed out on the Arts Commission dance party at Burton Manor and the Veterans Service at Rosedale Presbyterian Church but with the bodyguard watching over me I was able to get out and stop in to Westborn Market in support of the Clarenceville Marching Band. Great to see UM music major and UM marching band

member Douglas Ferguson, pictured left) now working with the marching band and creating enthusiasm for more students who love music. This weekend they split up and provided music outside Westborn Market and Busch's.

Wednesday is my day to be cut loose but if I had one place to visit for 30 minutes this weekend it was to see young students playing for customers outside two hometown markets.

Come out next week and audition for Don't Hug Me.

Allen Brooks on Display

Allen Brooks has 4 prints accepted in the Three Cities Art Club call for Artists at the Westland City Hall Gallery. Fall Harvest, Picasso Runs with Scissors, The Winds of Autumn, and Magical Musician.

The exhibit runs until Jan 6 and opens M-F from 9 to 5.

Brooks says you should "Be sure and see it, you will not be disappointed!"

The typewriter agrees, especially this photo giving a little color to the end of fall.

Bentley High alums invited to help apply for Michigan Historical Marker

The typewriter graduated from Franklin High School in 1967 but well remembers Bentley High School, specifically Principal Al Zak and his anti-smoking campaign. And then there was my first varsity swim meet against Coach Larry Joiner at Bentley in which I finished dead last. So embarrassed as most in the stands thought we were related. We're not. Or there was the Marksmanship Merit Badge achieved at the shooting range underneath Bentley. Yes, there was a rifle range. I know because I was there on my way to the rank of Eagle. And yes, I was at the Bentley Senior Prom, Class of 1967 with Pam Peal, whose mother was campaign manager for my mother in her victorious win in 1965 for Livonia school board.

With Bentley no longer and only the memories lingering it is time for a Michigan Historical Marker to be placed on the site to remind us of what once was. And to move us in that direction the Livonia Historical Society has stepped up to the plate to collect funding and start the application process.

Leading the effort at Bentley alums George Friess, Gene Kramer, and George Calder. So if you would like to help out donations can be made payable to Livonia Historical Society and mailed to LHS, Greenmead Historical Park, 20501 Newburgh, Livonia 48152. Please write "Bentley Fund" on the check.

In addition, there is a special meeting at the Quaker Meeting House in Greenmead, at 2 pm, Thursday, November 17th. If you have any questions please email livoniahistoricalsocietymi@gmail.com.

This is a great opportunity for some of our famous or infamous Bentley graduates like County Commissioner Terry Marecki, Hall of Fame Inductee Steve Spreitzer, The Dittilies founder Steve King, Livonia dean of the City Council Laura Toy to join in helping get the process underway.

Livonia holiday parade officially

kicks off Winter December 4

The Merry & Bright Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting is coming up in a little more than one month; at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. They are now looking for local groups – civic, school, scouts, etc. – to join the parade on a route from Frost Middle School to City Hall.

Businesses can purchase a sponsorship to also participate.
