Our hometown Goodfellows and Hindu Temple partner with Mayor-elect Brosnan and Chief Curtis Caid to take folks out to dinner

Musings is having a tough time keeping up with all the activites of our Mayor-elect. While in Georgia getting my fill of real sweet tea I thought I would check in with her facebook postings. Discovered pictures and posting detailing some of the work of our Livonia Goodfellows and our Hindu Temple. Another feel good Livonia story. Here is the posting in the words of our Mayor-elect:

"So, while I'm getting ready to officially take the reigns as mayor, I was invited, along with Livonia Police Chief Caid, to share Thanksgiving Eve at Leon's Family Diner."

"The Goodfellows and Livonia's Hindu Temple, Sri Shirdi Saibaba came together to serve Thanksgiving dinner to over 90 Livonia residents and families."
Update from Congresswoman Haley Stevens:
Preventing Animal Cruelty

The following update was provided to FridayMusings and in turn being shared with our readers:

As a stalwart supporter of animal safety and a proud member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, I am committed to ensuring the fair and humane treatment of all animals.

That is why I recently took to the floor of the House of Representatives to express my adamant support for the bipartisan Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act-a bill to criminalize some of the most appalling forms of animal cruelty.

I am proud to report that this crucial legislation has now become public law.

It is long past time for Congress to stand up against animal cruelty and make it a federal crime to commit animal abuse. This is a significant step in our mission to protect the rights of our animals, but there is far more work that needs to be done.

Recently, I was proud to lead a bipartisan amendment to a House-passed bill that instructs the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Environment and Natural Resources Division to allocate more resources to adequately enforce our nation's animal cruelty laws. The amendment would also encourage the DOJ to create an Animal Cruelty Crimes Unit and have dedicated staff to prosecute these offenses.

Additionally, I recently co-sponsored the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, which would protect sharks from cruelty and set the foundation for their long-term sustenance by ending the practice of shark fin trading in the United States. This bill passed the House last week with my support, and I will continue working to see it passed into law

It is critical that we advocate for the living creatures who cannot advocate for themselves. I am dedicated to ridding our country of heartless cruelty toward animals.
Some thoughts and reactions to FridayMusings
. . .the recap article on the Wayne County committee meeting dealing with Hines Park

Chris Last:
The efforts put fourth by EVERYONE are amazing. It is unfortunate that the "powers to be" exercised their "power" with the only interest being money. I commend Commissioner Diane Webb, for her determination to not only stand strong, but for all the information she provided. The facts speak for themself.

Deb Christiansen: Unable to be present today in protest. Thank you to those who were there. And thank you for this recap.

Mike Rudell: Thank you for the recap!! I am so very sad that my beloved Hines is being parceled away

. . .on Maureen Miller Brosnan's Livonia2020.com web site

Connie Vokal:  I was hoping that she would do something like this. A giant leap forward for Livonia!

Pamela Valentine: I am pleased that she is encouraging more people to give input on issues.

R Karl BurnettWide open and thus transparent!

. . .on the typewriter stopping off in Berea Kentucky for catfish and sweet tea

Jim Baringhaus:  Nothing better than fried catfish. You're a true gourmet Bill!

Sherry Klisz: We love Berea! It's such a pleasant small town

Gail Chamberlain McKillop: Have never tried catfish! It's now on my bucket list.

Becca Rowan: No better fried catfish than Kentucky fried catfish! (Beats the chicken in my book!)

. . .on FridayMusings in general

April Wolters: Thank you for putting the Euchre tournament in your brochure!  It was appreciated!  The tournament was a success!  We will probably be doing one again next year!  Love your posts and updates on community events and keeping us all informed!   Keep up the great work!

Alan and Lonna Baum: A Very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.  We really enjoy Friday Musings and thank you for all of the good work you do for Livonia.
Curbside clothing recycling set to begin December 9
FridayMusings was the first to report on Friday that Curbside clothing, household items recycling to begin. Share this and let your friends and neighbors know that it begins December 9.

But first thanks to the Livonia City Council for passing this progressive step in recycling.

Livonia residents will soon be able to recycle unwanted textiles and small household items simply by bagging them and leaving them at the curb on their regular recycling collection day.

Livonia is launching the new service D ec. 9, 2019, in partnership with Simple Recycling, which will be picking up the items throughout the City. The service is free to residents and the City.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), more than 84% of old clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, and textile items end up in a landfill or an incinerator. On average, that works out to about 85 lbs. of textile items per person each year. As a result, textiles make up more than 6% of all the residential and municipal trash in the US.

Simple Recycling is sending informational mailers to homes that receive recycling collection from the City. The mailers will contain free Simple Recycling bags.

Residents are encouraged to continue donating new and used clothing or household items to various local charities. The Simple Recycling option is for items of any age and its purpose is to provide a convenient curbside collection option for residents who want it. Ultimately, it's about keeping items out of the trash.

When cleaning out closets or disposing of unwanted items, residents can place them in the bags. If a resident doesn't have enough orange bags, they can use regular trash bags that are clearly marked for Simple Recycling. Residents can then place the bags at the curb on their normal recycling collection day.

The company will accept a wide range of used textiles and small household items. The list of accepted items includes all types of used or new clothing, boots and shoes, belts and ties, handbags, hats and gloves, toys, towels, sheets and blankets, small kitchen appliances, and more.

For more information about the Simple Recycling program, residents can call the Livonia Department of Public Works at (734) 466-2655 or visit simplerecycling.com.
