Seedlings partnering with our UPS Store
Seedlingsbraillebooks and Five Mile UPS Store in Livonia is once again teaming up to donate Braille Books to visually impaired children across the country.

The UPS Store in Livonia was #1 in the nation last year out of over 5,000 stores receiving customer donations last year. #1.

The typewriter is on his best behavior at the Musings Estate
Cookies are well under way at the Musings Estate. Production and assembly line has started. Cookies baked. Icing being applied. Rum cakes are done. Pizzelles are finished. Ten types of cookies, rum cakes and pizzelles. Ready for shipping to Georgia and Colorado.

Understand though, the typewriter was banned from the kitchen. When the bodyguard speaks this typewriter listens. Especially when it is ten days to Christmas.
Parks and Recreation wants to hear from you
Livonia Parks and Recreation are beginning the process of putting together our next five-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan and we want your input. If you live in the community, participated in our programs, or have used our parks or facilities, we want to know what you think.

Please take 8-10 minutes to respond to our survey at the link below by Feb. 21. It'll help us evaluate what we currently have and then create actionable goals for improving our park system and recreation programs over the next several years. You will also have an option to enter into a prize drawing at the end of the survey.
2021 City Council Election around the corner
It seems like we just ended a local election season with over $700,000 spent in a race for State Representative. A race that ended with barely 250 votes separating Representative Laurie Pohutsky and Martha Ptashnik. I know some local art organizations that would like to have just 1% of that amount.

But as we turn the corner to 2021 get ready for another campaign season as Livonia gears up to elect members of the Livonia City Council.

Only city council will be on the ballot as the race for Mayor, Clerk, and Treasurer will not be held until 2023.

Three incumbents will be running in 2021 with one incumbent term-limited and accordingly ineligible to run. Jim Jolly, Laura Toy, and Rob Donovic are eligible to run for re-election. Cathy White is not eligible to run.

So far FridayMusings is aware of one challenger making it known they are interested in running. Carrie Budzinski has mentioned to several that she will be a candidate. In addition, some are touting former city councilman Brandon Kritzman.

The candidate running #1 will become President of City Council.

It is early yet and there is plenty of time for candidates to gear up.
A Happy Holiday story

On October 12th, 2020, just after 6:00 pm, the Livonia Police Department received a 911 emergency call from a mother who reported that her two-year-old daughter was choking on a piece of pickled beet. Two Livonia officers arrived on scene within minutes and observed the child to be unresponsive and blue in the face. Both officers performed back blows and abdominal thrusts in an attempt to clear the child’s airway.

The child was transported to St Mary’s Hospital in Livonia by the Livonia Fire Department where multiple pieces of beet were removed from her airway. The child was then air lifted to Mott’s Children Hospital in Ann Arbor where she has made a full recovery.


Recently, the child and her family came in to the Livonia Police Department to show their appreciation. The child was able to meet and get a picture with one of the officers who helped save her life that day.

Every Wednesday and Friday starting January 6 and concluding February 10 community leaders, elected and non-elected, will share their vision for the future of Livonia in the decade of the 2020's.

The 50's brought us St. Mary Hospital. The 60's a recreation center in the YMCA. The 70's brought us Greenmead. The 80's the Civic Center Library. The 90's the Recreation Center. The 2020's?

On February 12 Musings will take a look at the present while giving our readers the opportunity, in a special Valentine issue, to share why they love Livonia. The special edition will lead off with an article from Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan on what she loves about Livonia.
