Friends out working in support of our Library

Friends of the Livonia Library creatively opened for business this past Saturday to collect donated books at the Dickinson Center.

Here, Jim of the Friends received the first approximately three dozen books from Alan Helmkamp.

The drop off was obviously a success:

Patrice Smith: We dropped off 10 bags...all FULL.

April Gradowski: Just went and dropped mine off. Nothing compared to Alan's three dozen, but still will help

Michael Ladwig Just dropped off two boxes. A Livonia service club at work doing good deeds.
And now there are five.
Schoolcraft close to filling vacancy

Brian Broderick, Chairman of the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees has passed along that the Board is making progress in appointing a replacement for the resignation of Gretchen Alaniz. "We are down to 5 final candidates that the Board will interview":

Jim Baringhaus - Livonia, Sherie Queen - Plymouth
Bill Irving - Northville

"Our goal is to have the new Trustee seated at the February Board meeting."

February 20 - 27. Those are the dates that the Arc of Northwest Wayne County will be virtually celebrating its 60th Anniversary of building inclusive communities through advocacy, support, and information.

For 60 years their vision is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people. They believe that participation in community life is essential to the wellbeing of every person, and with the right assistance and support, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can and will be contributing, valued members of the communities in which they live.

You can be a part of the Celebration by logging onto and registering for the opportunity to bid on a number of exciting prizes and opportunities. The typewriter has registered and encourages you to do as well:


The Arc seeks and supports diverse leadership and membership. their concept of diversity includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, age, socio-economic status, geographic location, sexual orientation, gender, family status, and type and level of disability.

This is another opportunity to support community diversity, by supporting people with developmental disabilities. Happy Anniversary ARC of Northwest Wayne County.

Kathleeen Chichester, President, and Dr. Peggy Gaskill, Past President, are joining with Councilman Brandon McCullough and Councilman Jim Jolly to invite you to a Livonia Civic Chorus Valentine Drive-by to support the arts.

From 12 - 3 all you have to do is drive through the entrance to the Livonia Civic Center Senior Citizen Center, roll down your window and the Chorus will reach out with a basket on a pole for you to place a donation for the Civic Chorus, an inductee into the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame.

In return, the basket will place a freshly baked cookie from Heritage Bakery and a Love Livonia Bumper Sticker along with smiles all around.

Later this week we will pass along a special radio FM station for you to dial in to listen to some of the music of the Livonia Civic Chorus as you drive by and arrive at the Center.

Livonia is the cornerstone of cultural excellence. As we return to some sense of normalcy we can stop by and support the arts--the Livonia Civic Chorus.
Maureen Miller Brosnan Picking up the check on behalf of Friends of Greenmead was great. But, sitting around and telling Bob Hardies stories after was even better. Bob’s legacy will live on, not only in the financial contributions he made but in the way he dedicated himself to his community. Thanks for the invitation FridayMusings.

Brett Gierak I had the pleasure of working for Bob for two and a half years. He had a heart of gold and loved Livonia and Clarenceville.

Brandon Kritzman It’s no surprise that Bob Hardies’ generosity to his community continues after his passing.
