With the resignation of Schoolcraft College Trustee Gretchen Alaniz the Trustees have been tasked with appointing a replacement. Last week Musings reported on the five finalists scheduled to be interviewed. That list has now been narrowed down to three with an appointment set for next Wednesday.

The finalists are two from Livonia, Jim Baringhaus and Brett Gierak, and one from Northville, Bill Irving. Musings will announce the new Schoolcraft College Trustee shortly after the meeting on Wednesday.

Tuesday of this week, mParks, Michigan Recreation and Parks Association Professional Recognition Committee announced the recipients of their Annual Individual Awards. Livona's Billy Kleppen was awarded the New Professional Award.

Livonia has an outstanding Parks and Recreation program. Billy Kleppen is one of the reasons why.

Livonia resident makes a difference.
Livonia resident Joanie Barocio-Hall, owns Beauty Bar & Boutique in Plymouth. Every six weeks, Joanie and her staff donate their time to children from the House of Providence by washing, cutting, and styling little boys' and girls' hair!

In the State of Michigan, there are thousands of children waiting for a family to call their own. The House of Providence provides a therapeutic and familial environment for minors who are languishing without the prospect of a permanent family of their own.

House of Providence offers a safe and secure home for Michigan’s foster youth to stabilize and thrive, finding hope, healing, and a permanent family.

During the children’s visit and wait between cuts, Joanie and her staff set up a breakfast buffet for the children. They share laughs, catch up from the previous weeks apart, joke, and share an unconditional family bond of love and friendship.

February 20 - 27. Those are the dates that the Arc of Northwest Wayne County will be virtually celebrating its 60th Anniversary of building inclusive communities through advocacy, support, and information.

For 60 years their vision is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people. They believe that participation in community life is essential to the wellbeing of every person, and with the right assistance and support, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can and will be contributing, valued members of the communities in which they live.
