Madonna University, founded 85 years ago by the Felician Sisters was the recipient of the Large Business of the Year. Learned that they serve 2,500 undergrad and graduate students.
Dan MacIver of Financial & Portfolio Advisors brought team members Gina Miller and Deborah White on stage to accept the Small Business of the Year.
MacIver summed up much of the evening with his comments that "The secret of small business success in Livonia centers around the support given the business community by our residents, the encouragement of our city and school leaders, the plethora of cultural opportunities, the expansive athletic programs.
"Each of these component parts creates a hometown that attracts new residents, involves the established and long-time residents, and works to create a definition of quality of life.
"Our city of Livonia working with the Chamber of Commerce presents a playing field with plenty of opportunities for success. It is up to each of us to take advantage of those opportunities. By doing so we engage the residents and provide them with stores to shop and services to seek out.
"F&PA is pleased to be a part of the success of Livonia and we remain committed to the quality of life, pitching in when called upon, participating when the need arises, and being proud to call Livonia our hometown.
"We challenge all here tonight to reach out and find the niche of community involvement that synergistically when combined with others, creates a hometown of which we can all be proud."
