The Livonia Historical Society is asking if you have become a member yet?
Now is the chance to show your support for Livonia history and Greenmead !
|
Since 1956 the Livonia Historical Society has been supporting knowledge and awareness of history, primarily Livonia but also the history of southeast Michigan. The society also has as its mission the support of Greenmead historical village.
This typewriter is working with President Jim McConnell to enlist our Livonia neighbors, readers of Musings, to become a part of this revitalization of the Livonia Historical Society by printing out this membership form, or just mail a check to the Livonia Historical Society Membership, 20501 Newburgh, Livonia 48152.
$10.00 for one or $15.00 for two. Please. Your donation will go a long way toward showing support for Greenmead.
Dr. Robert Legel has helmed the society for well over a decade, providing support to Greenmead, sponsoring interesting and informative speakers, is now retiring as the long-serving President.
I for one appreciate the leadership provided by Dr. Legel, who before the pandemic saw record numbers of members. When the pandemic rolled over us many non-profit organizations took a hit.
Jim McConnell has put together an outstanding board of directors and is bringing in the first speaker post-pandemic, John Gallagher.
The Livonia Historical Society on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 2 p.m., will hear “Changing Detroit: What Detroit Can teach Other Cities.”
I am asking for your support for the Livonia Historical Society. Not necessarily to attend some of the speakers, but you will always be welcomed at any you choose.
I need you to sign up and make this small donation and be a part of the success that is Greenmead.
I must confess up front that the typewriter has written and sent in my membership, along with the bodyguards. Will you join me and Jim McConnell in supporting the Livonia Historical Society, a fixture in Livonia since 1956.
The Livonia Historical Society meets in the historic Alexander Blue House, Greenmead Historical Park, 20501 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48154.

For Signature Saturday, March 19 from 10:00 to 2:00, here are some of what you'll have the opportunity to be signing.
a. Petitions to be on the ballot for Congress and judges.
b. REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM FOR ALL: This constitutional amendment would repeal the1931 law that makes abortion a felony and would enshrine reproductive freedom in our state constitution. Reproductive freedom includes the right to obtain contraception, the right to have an abortion, and prohibits prosecution for terminating a pregnancy or helping someone else exercise their reproductive freedom.
c. PROMOTE THE VOTE 2022: This constitutional amendment would make voting more accessible. Among other things, it would allow nine days of early voting, allow voters who don't have a photo ID to vote by signing an affidavit (current policy), make it easier to obtain absentee ballots, establish more drop boxes, and establish that post election audits can only be done by state and local elected officials.
d. RAISE THE WAGE MI: This would raise the state minimum wage to $15 for all workers over five years, starting at $11/hour in 2023.
