A Livonia return to normal event
Charlie Mahoney dropped a dime which got the typewriter thinking.
She wrote "glad to see the Corn Roast on the calendar - count on the Livonia Symphony Orchestra and the Livonia Community Fooundation for display space for sure."
That was followed by a note from Kathleen Chichester, President of the Livonia Civic Chorus, "The LCC will be happy to attend and sing or whatever else you need us to do."
There is a pent up demand for a return to normal by so many of our art, cultural and divic organizations.

Add to that Community Financial Credit Union with a note that they are on board as a sponsor, and Livonia Kids & Families received a donation from the Robert Hardies Family Trust to help with the sponsorship of the Corn Roast. Two community boosters, Financial & Portfolio Advisors and AlphaUSA are on board. AlphaUSA will be providing the corn.
Students, pictured here with former State Representative Laura Cox, shucked 1000 ears of corn at Year 3 Corn Roast.
Ted Davis, Superintendent Livonia Parks, and Recreation said "let's meet soon to set up how the civic groups will be set up," at Greenmead, the new host park for the 4th Annual Corn Roast.
But Davis did not stop there, "we will have docents at each of the historic buildings at Greenemead."
The date is set. September 19th. The time is set. 12:00 to 4:00. The promotional material is being designed and ready to go. Invitations to every family that has moved or will move into Livonia in 2021, giving them the opportunity to see our historic Greenmead Village and meet over 30 community organizations.
Jim Jolly is once again sponsoring the Kona Truck for free shaved ice for all.
Seedlings, Livonia Arts Commission are on board with more beginning to sign up. So if you are a community organization and want to be a part of introducing your group to hundreds or thousands of Livonia residents, new and old, drop the typewriter a note.
The 4th annual Livonia Good Old Fashioned Corn is designated a RETURN TO NORMAL EVENT.

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day!
The idea behind the crazy socks is because chromosomes are shaped like socks and people with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome. Join them and wear your crazy socks on March 21st and show your support for these awesome individuals
Supporting Anastasia and Katie's is designated for Livonia Return to Normal.

The typewriter is moving ahead cautiously. But moving ahead nonetheless.
Actually starting to fill the calendar with what I am designating as Livonia Return to Normal Events. Events to look forward to.
It is easy at 70, coming up on 72, to look back to the "goods old days." But I find that makes me feel older. Receiving my Eagle Scout in 1964. Winning the city ping pong championship in 1963. Being selected to represent the United States at a western Hemisphere gathering in Venezuela for two months in 1965.
Easy to say "those were the best days."
I want to look forward. To plan for the future. To stay young. To come up with new ideas or new ways to restructure proven programs.
We, as a community, as a society, as people need to look to a return to Normal.
Oh yes, get the vaccines (check), wear the mask (check), social distance (check). And put the calendar back up. Start filling it in.
I enjoy sharing memories but boy do I really enjoy creating new ones.

A Livonia Return to Normal Event. Livonia Hall of Fame
|
Every year the date of the annual 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame is circled bright red on the calendar of many Livonia residents. This year is no exception–October 7th.
The Induction Ceremony has been the gathering place for an incredible community of creative thinkers and innovators, the source of so much of what has been given to Livonia since our incorporation as a Township in 1835 and as a City in 1950.

A Livonia Return to Normal Event.
"Chip in for the Arts."
That's right it is time to start looking forward to the Annual Bob Bennett Memorial Golf Classic, "Chip in for the Arts."
This year the Classic, sponsored by Financial & Portfolio Advisors will be hosted at Whispering Willows. Proceeds go toward providing outstanding music by our Livonia Symphony Orchestra.
Details are coming soon but we do know that the date is June 4th with registration at 11:00 and a shotgun start at noon. So get those clubs out and get ready for another outstanding Livonia tradition.

AIM High School serves students on the autism spectrum, with ADHD
and anxiety disorders.
|
In the same way that the Livonia nonprofit organization Seedlings serves a wide audience, the same is true of a small educational institution called AIM High School. Livonia has many fine schools and youth organizations, all equally deserving, but AIM High is unique in that it serves a specific population of students.
While physically located on 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, which is referred to by the typewriter as North Livonia, it serves students throughout western Wayne and southern Oakland Counties.
It is distinctive in providing a college-ready curriculum to students on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, and anxiety disorders the opportunity to discover their true potential. AIM High serves grades 6-12 and is a supportive learning environment focused on small classes, strong teacher-student relationships, and a safe peer environment. Take a look at some of the inspiring parent and student testimonials on the website.
To ensure that all students with learning differences can attend, it must fundraise. Last year's event was canceled due to Covid, but this year's Hawk Party will be held at the school with appropriate safeguards. AIM HIGH School is seeking donations for our silent auction, and tickets to the party are $100 (which also enter the ticket holder into a $500 drawing). www.aimhighschool.com
AIM HIGH is a 501(c) nonprofit; all donations are tax-deductible.
