HELPING CHILDREN IN NEED SLEEP BETTER
|
All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. Across the United States too many boys and girls go without a bed - or even a pillow - to sleep on.
These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and health.
Wendell Gramlich, Co-chair of the Western Wayne County chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace sums up the organization in this way, "That's where Sleep in Heavenly Peace comes in. We're a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need."

The organization has grown steadily over time, and they are now working on opening more chapters in different states to serve more people with the adage that "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town."

Paul’s Presbyterian Church Hires New Head Pastor
Welcome to Livonia Nathan and Katie Achterhof

At a special meeting of the congregation on Sunday, February 21, 2021, after an almost two-year pastoral search, St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, called Pastor Nathan Achterhof as its new pastor. The congregation’s invitation was joyfully accepted by Pastor Achterhof. He will begin serving St. Paul’s on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Pastor Achterhof’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Dordt University, Sioux Center, Iowa. While at Dordt University, Pastor Nate had the opportunity to live and work in a variety of Midwest locations both within the church and as a youth minister. While residing in Kansas City, he served in youth ministry with the organization YouthFront in a low-income area of the city. Pastor Nate earned his Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois, in 2019. He served as a Youth Director at First Presbyterian Church in Hawley, PA, from 2014-2016, Intern Pastor at Edgewater Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL, from 2017-2018, and in a dual role as pastor at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church in Elmhurst, PA, and Moosic Presbyterian Church in Moosic, PA from 2019-2021.
He has been active in the Lackawanna Presbytery in Pennsylvania. Pastor Nate and his wife, Katie, plan to reside in Livonia upon their arrival in Michigan. The congregation looks forward to welcoming Pastor Nate and his family to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. A service of installation and thanksgiving will be announced at a later date.
St. Paul’s has been a part of the Livonia faith community since 1951.

Rather than call them the Michigan State Spartans, the team will now receive the following treatment in East Lansing's Breslin Center:
"MSU Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage."
So from now on when addressing the typewriter on Monday's I should be introduced as
"Richard Joyner IV Presented by AlphaUSA."
on Wednesday's I should be introduced as:
"Richard Joyner IV Presented by F&PA"
on Friday's I should be introduced as:
"Richard Joyner IV Presented by St Mary Mercy Hospital"
We could have every school board member with their own endorsement deal. Or how about our city council folks. Carry it a step further and add the Mayor, Clerk and Treasurer.
Proceeds would be earmarked for budget shortfall or special budget items.
Let's do it. Or on second through let's ignore the endorsement deal at Michigan State. At least until every member of the team can arrange for their own sponsorship deal.
Until then just call me Richard IV.

Livonia Continues to step up in partnership with the Livonia Kiwanis

Schools Bond Proposal Virtual Presentation
The first Livonia Public Schools 2021 virtual bond proposal presentation and Q&A session was held on March 10th. They have two additional community (virtual) meetings on March 16 and April 14, both from 6-7 p.m. on the LPS Youtube channel.

The typewriter returns to normal to hear some music |
Another normal step out by the typewriter will take place on March 19th at 7:00 at the North Center Brewing Company, west Livonia aka Northville, to hear my favorite Livonia acoustic guitar player Robert Johnson.
NCBC is owned by another Livonia resident Kevin DeGrood, pictured right below, an alum of Catholic Central.
Vaccine (check). Mask (check). Social distance (check). Will be my first night out to a facility serving up adult beverages. One step at a time.

Of course, this date is contingent on the COVID numbers not being out of control. And, of course, we will be at your Corn Roast!!

Charlie Mahoney, Inductee in the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame, pictured here with the bodyguard and the late Fernon Feenstra: I have been extremely busy this last few months or so I it seems and I have not had time to absorb all that is going on in the community, this is the first Musings I have had the time to read through totally and I want to thank you for bringing the important issues to us; like the school bond proposal, Senator Polehanki’s bill and the Kiwanis Baby Item donation, the Library Storyteller program, community activities oh and for sure the movie listings.
I join you and I hope many others in support of the bond proposal.
