I took a pledge. Will you join.

I say we all take the pledge and stay home. I am.

I will not cast aspersions on those who are going out and living life as if there is nothing to worry about but to acknowledge my core belief that we can only control our tiny plot of grass and it is my responsibility to leave it in better shape then when I came into this world.

For two weeks, or longer if there is a movement by our government leaders asking us to reduce our social integration for more time. I will not leave my house except to work in the yard or take a walk around the block. I say we all take the pledge and stay home. See if we can circumvent a possible national shut down, which is shaping up to be inevitable. But I am taking a pledge. At 70 I do not want to take a chance. I am taking a pledge to stay home.

I do not want to be in the way on what will surely be a burden on our health care system. That is my response. That is the step I will take. And I mean to keep it.
Leadership in our city, schools and faith community. All doing their share to communicate. Thank you.
The City of Livonia, Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan uses the city YouTube Channel and Situation Reports on the City of Livonia Website to communicate with our hometown residents. On the left is the Sunday Situation Report.

Paul Shepich, Superintendent Clarenceville Public Schools posted this statement on the Clarenceville Facebook page: As a school superintendent I feel a need to share a couple of thoughts to my friends & family on FB concerning COVID-19. I know not where you fall on the spectrum of this is a hoax, all the way to sheer panic & hoarding.

I don't know if you agree with the closing of schools or not but, hear me out. This is not "just the flu." The flu comes in a regular basis at different times in different countries & we have a vaccine for it. This is a pandemic because this strain of flu vir
us is SPREADING across the world at the same time. It should NOT cause panic but bring more focus to what each of us can do to STOP THE SPREAD.

The predicted numbers by the CDC with & without the use of specific strategies is staggering across our globe & in our country. A country can be proactive or reactive in these types of situations. Schools are always going to try to be proactive because of always putting the safety of our students and staff 1st. Schools are not overreacting or panicking-we are leading.

The most EFFECTIVE way to minimize the SPREAD of this virus is to follow the CDC guidance including "Social Distancing." Yes, change is difficult for many but how about we think of others before ourselves. Schools & families & businesses will get through this...especially if we stick together. I believe we were all put on this earth to do our part to make life a little better for others. Now is the time to exemplify what is best in all of us.

Kellie Whitlock, Pastor Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church:  As one connected to our church family via you & your family I wanted to share with you how incredibly blessed I know I am to serve the people of this church through this pandemic.

We will do more online brief worship services with staff, use our social media platforms for prayers, inspiration & responding to those who use it.

Last Friday when we received word that the city of Livonia was closing public places we immediately made the decision to close the church. Kate & I wrote an email blast we sent out at 6pm to the congregation. It was out on our FB page.  While we were writing, our staff was compiling the most up to date congregational wide phone contact list for our membership & organizations who meet here at the church.

From 6-8pm that night via text we recruited 35 members (for now & will recruit more if needed) to become our "Call Team." We wrote a script for our callers, divided up our membership of over 500 between them & every household was called in the first 24 hours. The calls were check-ins, to make sure people were aware of state/city guidelines, did they need any supplies, would they like regular calls, and prayer. We are keeping this team in place as long has the social distancing protocol continues.

Throughout this weekend we have started to recruit a Response Team of 50 members (for now, will recruit more if needed)  who will be utilized to do porch drop off's of food/any items and/or services.

We are offering up our Call Team &  Response Team volunteers for those in our city who need extra hands.

The world questions if the Christian Church is relevant today. There is no better way to answer that question then to be the hands & feet of Christ offering light in the midst of adversity. To support our state, city & community leaders, hospital & medical facilities, our Livonia Police & Fire Departments, military & veterans, our places of worship, our many non-profit organizations including Livonia Cares who will need added help to meet the needs of others.

The Franciscan Order of which St Francis of Assisi  ministered had guidelines for preaching. One of which was paraphrased & seems pertinent at this time for the community of the Church: "Preach The gospel at all times. If necessary use words."

You know Bill RGPC feels called by Christ to be a Mission Station. We continue to seek ways in which to live into that call to serve.

Thank you for keeping up with RGPC. Bill, I just had to share with you who cares so deeply for our fine City of Livonia, that we  do so as well.

Proud to call these Livonia health care leaders two of the best
They're executives and fundraisers. Nurses, physicians and researchers. They're advocates, educators and mentors. Leaders.

Meet Crain's 2020 Notable Women in Health: 41 women who are making a difference for patients, their businesses and in the field. Those who know them praise their vision, acumen and tirelessness.

And because of their work in the community and their mentorship of future health care leaders, their work will continue to make an impact for some time to come.

One Livonia Principal is turning school break into a positive experience
My hero of the week. Livonia and Clarenceville excel in wonderful teachers. One stands out with this novel idea.  Jonathon Wennstrom  is calling all students! Each weekday during the school break, he will be reading a story at 7:00 PM on his Facebook page. Each story will be a Caldecott Award winner!
Hope you will join him for Story Time!

Haley Stevens reaches out to her district.
Reaching out even when in Washington.
This Tuesday, March 17th at 6:00 pm, our Livonia Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) will host a
tele-town hall discussion for constituents of Michigan's 11th District to discuss the Coronavirus.
To join the conversation, call 855-408-1341, or complete the form at  Stevens.House.Gov/Live and
they will call you before the event starts.
Please note that you must sign up a minimum of 1 hour before the event's start time to be included.
You can also come back to  Stevens.House.Gov/Live to listen in online, or call 855-408-1341.

One business taking the initiative.
A little bar that could, Up North Craft Bar, across the street from Corsi's on Seven Mile, is making a
decision that many small businesses are considering. They have made their decision.
When they reopen this typewriter will stop in to say thank you.
"We've made the difficult but absolutely correct decision to keep our bar closed indefinitely, beginning today, to help "flatten the curve"*. We're going to stay in our homes as much as we can, hoping you're able to do the same."
