St. Mary Mercy Livonia is accepting much needed hospital supplies

 Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, which includes member hospitals St. Mary Mercy Livonia, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, announced plans to accept much-needed hospital supplies from area businesses and the community to support St. Joe's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following unused and unopened items are being accepted:
PAPRs, Regular masks, Face shields, N95 masks, Gowns, Hot glue sticks, Surgical caps/protective caps, Eyeglass shields/goggles, Nasal testing swabs, M4 viral media, Lysol or Clorox wipes, Hand sanitizer, Transparency sheets, Elastic banding for masks.
In addition, commercially prepared and packaged food items will be accepted.
 At this time, health guidelines do not allow the use of hand-crafted Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gowns, surgical masks and shields as they do not offer the same protection for nurses and other health care workers.

"We are looking for $1,000 in donations to "sponsor" boxes of cookies to be donated to our local hospitals, first responders and food banks. Thank you for supporting our community and for helping our troop to sell down the last of our inventory remaining since booths have been cancelled! Any amount of money you can donate is SO appreciated! Thank you so very much!"
Not long after that request she posted a follow up:
"I am SO incredibly proud of our Girl Scout Troop families!! Through donations from our friends and families we will be donating over 200 boxes to the staff at multiple local hospitals and we have sold our remaining inventory.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has bought and donated from our girls and to the parents who have helped get donations, take additional orders and made lots of porch deliveries.
"To know we can have a positive impact in a tough time and some good news today really makes me tear up.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Can't wait till I can see you all back together again."

COVID-19 Update for the City of Livonia from

Livonia City Hall and all city buildings, including 16th District Court, will be closed to all residents and visitors starting March 19 until April 6. The City will be restricting its staff to perform essential services.
Below is a list of contact numbers to use during the closure. Staff will be limited, so please be patient with us.

Situational Awareness
⚫ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announces Executive Order 2020-21, a "Stay Home, Stay Safe" directive. The order temporarily suspends in-person business operations that are not necessary to protect life.
⚫ The order directs Michigan residents to remain at home unless they are a part of the critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing health and safety tasks for themselves or family (e.g. going to the grocery store.)
⚫ The order remains in effect through April 14, and the full text of the order can be found on the State of Michigan website.
⚫ Livonia residents should note that the Stay Home order does not restrict food delivery operations of school districts.
⚫ Positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in 37 of Michigan's 83 counties. However about 86% of cases are in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb County.
⚫ Michigan Secretary of State offices will be closed in accordance with Gov. Whitmer's order. Customers can go online for many services and make appointments for a future visit (subject to cancellation) on the Secretary of State page.
Actions Taken
⚫ Mayor Brosnan announces closure of Livonia's three golf courses, Bicentennial Dog Park, and all play equipment in city parks to ensure alignment with Governor Whitmer's Executive Order.
⚫ Mayor Brosnan convenes meetings of City's Leadership Team, now divided into Incident Command Operations team and Community Impact team. Department directors review City's plan to reduce essential services and operations, evaluate supply needs, and plan to meet community needs.
⚫ City extends closure of Livonia Senior Center, Kirksey Recreation Center, Livonia Libraries, and City Hall through April 14 to coincide with the Governor's latest order.
⚫ Parks & Recreation team works out plan to extend memberships and cancel future automatic payment withdrawals to compensate Kirksey Recreation Center members for current closure period.

The Livonia Community Prayer Breakfast has been rescheduled to Thursday, Oct. 1 at Burton Manor. More details to come. This will be the 46th annual event. The committee believes strongly that this is a prudent decision.

In this same spiritual tradition, we join together each year at the Livonia Community Prayer Breakfast. Our attendance and participation in the meal and prayer demonstrates the dependence of our community and ourselves on God and our faith in the future under His guidance.
The Livonia Prayer Breakfast is a version of the National Prayer Breakfast held annually in Washington, D.C. Inaugurated in 1953 by some members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives, these events are now held in many states and cities throughout our nation.
The Livonia Prayer Breakfast was initiated in 1975 by an ecumenical group of citizens and continues as a voluntary spiritual communion. Its focus has been on bringing inspirational speakers to communicate positive, faith-filled principles that will inspire people to think globally and act locally.
The Mission of the Livonia Community Prayer Breakfast, Inc. is to communicate positive, faith-filled principles that inspire and empower people to reach their maximum spiritual and personal potential. World Down Syndrome Day 2020 focuses on the theme "
We Decide": all people with Down syndrome should have full participation in decision making about matters relating to, or affecting, their lives.
Effective and meaningful participation is a core human rights principle.
The overall aim of the events is to:
- Show how effective and meaningful participation of persons with Down syndrome can be achieved via accessible information and communication, good support and inclusive consultation;
- Empower persons with Down syndrome, those supporting them and their representative organisations, to advocate for effective and meaningful participation;
- Reach out to key stakeholders, including education, health and social care professionals, employers, community and public bodies, the wider disability movement, media and the wider community to disseminate this message and bring about change.
