Partnerships available for you to make contributions to help the medical cause in Livonia
|
 The city of Livonia along with the Livonia Chamber of Commerce are engaged in an effort to collect donations of medical protective equipment in great demand at our local hospitals. Individuals and Businesses
who don't have extra masks, gowns or sanitizer, but want to contribute toward the cause can do so through the Covid-19 Community Health Response Fund established by The Livonia Community Foundation.
Those interested in making monetary donations for the Covid-19 Community Health Response Fund can write a check to the Livonia Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has supported Livonia's charitable, cultural, arts, historical, educational and recreational efforts in Livonia for 25 years. The donation will be tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Checks should be mailed to the Livonia Community Foundation, 33300 Five Mile Road, Suite 102, Livonia, MI 48154. Please put Covid-19 Response Fund on the Memo Line.

Our Livonia Symphony Orchestra looking ahead for a robust schedule this fall. Let's all look ahead.

 The Board of Directors of the Livonia Symphony Orchestra wants you know that: Previously, we wrote to you about the Livonia Symphony Orchestra postponing the May 9th concert in accordance with the guidance from the CDC, National Government and the State of Michigan, in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.
While it is very disappointing to not be performing for you, the LSO is doing its best to safeguard the health and well-being of our patrons and musicians. Tickets can be donated as a tax-deductible contribution to the Symphony to help us through this crisis; or ticket holders may hold their tickets for a rescheduled date or for any concert in the 2020-2021 Season.
We also requested permission to reschedule the
Guitar Raffle Drawing originally scheduled for May 9th and tickets already purchased for the raffle will be valid for the new
 date.
New News:
The Spring Garden Party on May 17 is also cancelled. A method for refund is being reviewed at this time. If you would like to make a contribution instead of receiving a refund, please call the symphony number at 734-421-1111 and leave a message. Checks that have been received are being held at this time. We are contacting donors to see what is their preference for refund or contribution. We are extremely disappointed that this event had to be cancelled and look forward to holding this event in the Spring of 2021.
The Bob Bennett Memorial Golf Classic will be rescheduled to a September date, yet to be determined, providing it is in compliance with the national and state guidelines.
Other upcoming events are being reviewed on a day to day basis and updates will be posted as they become available.

This is the day for Musings to step back and provide some insight into numerous stories percolating in the background of our hometown:
After three weeks of staying inside the Musings Estate the typewriter is prepared to announce that I am a candidate for Livonia City Council. In the 2021 election cycle the name R. William Joyner will be on the ballot with a campaign theme of Just Say Yes to Joyner. Okay, that may undergo several iterations before the filing deadline. But at the age of 70 it is now or never. Stay tuned for a full platform of support for the arts, corporate partnerships for our historic sites, rejuvenation of the line of communication with neighbors and the city. Yes, I am just getting started.

Musings understands that a major partnership with the Schostak company and Greenmead was about to be proposed just as we were hit by the pandemic. Word on the street has the new name will be Greenmead in partnership with Schostak. In return for their sponsorship they will be creating a town center for concerts, allowed to provide 1890 themed housing and retail between the existing buildings. Artists creating on one floor and living in the lofts above. All the details are being worked out and are expected to be unveiled in September.

Talks are underway to for remediation at the Noble Library to rid the building of mold that has been the cause for the library to be closed for several months. But the startling news is that there is serious discussion to reopen the library once the remediation is complete. Reopened to house a Livonia Youth Center, a youth drop in center with space for creative acoustic music, scholarship assistance, counseling. A whole range for a youth center that has been talked about in this community since the early 1970's.

are continuing to SING! They are currently preparing for their next Concert and singing every day!!
The Livonia Civic Chorus' vision is to enrich the musical experiences for their members and the cultural life of our
community.
To achieve this vision during the COVID-19 crisis, they want to provide you music for your enjoyment
and get our community singing-along!

Application process now live for Michigan Small Business Relief Program funding
- Up to $20 million in grants and loans now available to Michigan's small businesses impacted by COVID-19 outbreak
- Grants and loans to support businesses facing drastic reductions in cash flow

Michigan's small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 virus can now apply for grants and loans through the Michigan Small Business Relief Program, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today. The program will provide up to $20 million in grants and loans to provide economic assistance to Michigan's small businesses that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 virus, and in turn help support workers and their families facing economic uncertainty during the outbreak. Information on how to apply, as well as eligibility criteria, is available at
www.michiganbusiness.org/covid19.
"Small businesses across our state are facing unprecedented challenges as we take every step possible to mitigate the spread of coronavirus," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. "With this funding, we can provide real assistance to support our businesses, communities, entrepreneurs and workers around the state impacted by the tough, but necessary actions we are taking to mitigate the spread of this virus."
The grants and loans under the Michigan Small Business Relief Program will support businesses facing drastic reductions in cash flow and the continued support of their workforce and may be used for working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses, or other similar expenses that occur in the ordinary course of business.
Key information to know about the application process includes:
There is one application, regardless of whether a business is applying for a grant or a loan. A business may receive a grant or a loan, but not both.
Businesses who do not receive grants may still be considered for loans.
The grants will be administrated by 15 regional economic development organizations throughout the state, which combined cover all 83 counties in Michigan.
All applications or recommendations for Michigan Small Business Relief Program loans will be referred from the partner EDOs to the MEDC for evaluation and disbursement.

St. Mary Mercy Livonia is accepting much needed hospital supplies
|
|
 Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, which includes member hospital St. Mary Mercy Livonia, announced plans to accept much-needed hospital supplies from area businesses and the community to support St. Joe's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following unused and unopened items are being accepted:
PAPRs, Regular masks, Face shields, N95 masks, Gowns, Hot glue sticks, Surgical caps/protective caps, Eyeglass shields/goggles, Nasal testing swabs, M4 viral media, Lysol or Clorox wipes, Hand sanitizer, Transparency sheets, Elastic banding for masks.
In addition, commercially prepared and packaged food items will be accepted.
 At this time, health guidelines do not allow the use of hand-crafted Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gowns, surgical masks and shields as they do not offer the same protection for nurses and other health care workers.
