Ramadan – the ninth month of the Islamic calendar – has arrived. Each year the dates vary depending on the lunar cycle, but in 2022 Ramadan takes place from April 2 until May 1.

The religious event is observed by millions of Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

You will undoubtedly hear people saying ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ to each other during this time, or posting it on their social media – but what does it actually mean? The most established greeting for the holy month is ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ – which translates to mean either ‘blessed Ramadan’ or ‘happy Ramadan.’

Churchill v Stevenson Charity softball game

April 9th @ 11:00.

The typewriter has a dilemma. As a Franklin graduate whom do I root for in a charity softball game between Churchill Chargers and Stevenson Spartans?

I guess it really doesn't matter who I root for, shhh, Stevenson, as the game is to support one of Livonia’s own amazing coaches!

You see each year, a charity rivalry softball game is played between Churchill and Stevenson, and this year the game is in support of Matt Jones and his family and will take place on April 9th @ 11 am at Churchill HS.

Matt is battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and will have a long road ahead. He is known to have donated hours of time away from his family for the better part of over 10 years for youth softball. He has been a Recreation director, Travel Coach and is now the JV Softball Coach for Churchill HS.

Matt started out with LJAL and the Wild and strived to provide safe and affordable programs for Livonia’s youth.

Matt and his wife, Christina, have two young adult daughters and an autistic son whom they both care for on a daily basis.

Matt has always been the guy to pitch in wherever a hand is needed, whether professionally, personally, or in the community.

Please help our Livonia community do everything we can to help ease the burdens for Matt and Chris on this journey ahead of them.

There will be raffle baskets, a 50/50, a photo booth, and so much more! Bring your family and friends out to see a great game of ball!

"Today we announced to our teams that one of our own Matthew Jones, pictured here with wife Christina, is fighting Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. Matt has been The Leader in Girls Fastpitch in Livonia for many years. He has donated countless hours to our sport and he now needs our help.

"Our annual rival game vs Livonia Stevenson will be played for Matt this year and his family. This game has been played for many great causes in the past but this one hits close to home.

"Saturday April 9 come out and watch some great softball and support a great cause. Please come out and support The Best Person I know and beat cancer."

Motor City Youth Theatre keeps on playing and how with a grant from the Hardies Family Trust Fund

One of the best kept secrets in Livonia is the Motor City Youth Theatre championed by the indefatigable Nancy Florkowski.

They recently had their chair lift pass its useful day having been donated used over 10 years ago.

At that point the Hardies Family Trust provided the funding to replace the lift and it was recently installed.

Needless to say Florkowski was elated, just as all of Livonia should be elated at this small, hometown theatre group.

Florkowski says that Alice in Wonderland, the "first show after having a new chair lift installed, thanks to Carol Sue Brodbeck, Bill Joyner, Peggy Gaskill and the Hardies Trust Fund of Livonia!!

"Motor City Youth Theatre thanks you!"
