Why I’m not supporting the proposed 30 million dollar, amulti-family apartment complex on Plymouth, next to Walmart and Target.
It is nowhere near the best use for this vacant lot which one member of the City Council has called it a state-of-the-art- housing development.
Don't tell this to the residents living behind the building, families living there for years or decades without an apartment building looking down on them.
It is the wrong building at the wrong time. The council should send it back to the developer, Schostak Brothers for real creative thinking.
When an upscale apartment building was proposed for Victor Parkway and Seven Mile our Council was leaning toward approving the development but turned it down because in part folks in the area said "no".
If residents can turn a yes vote into a no vote in the north end of the city so too should the residents in the south end of the city who have spoken out loud and clear in opposition have their voices heard and listened to.
A mixed-use development with a park-like setting, areas for families to stroll, shop, and be entertained. A mini downtown. Now that is out-of-the-box and creative thinking. The existing development of Walmart and Target never fulfilled their promises and nothing I have seen shows that the next lot will be any different.
Bahr, McIntyre, Donovic, and Jolly have voted yes on procedural issues sending it to the attorney for the correct language.
Toy, McCullough, and Morgan have been voting no.
This development is wrong and should be voted down.

The typewriter hits the road again |
On the road again. Indeed, the typewriter is off, heading South. Crossed the Mason-Dixon Line Sunday afternoon. That meant my first glass of sweet tea and my first meal of catfish.
Monday morning will bring me a sausage biscuit at Hardee's, the original sausage biscuit. Ahhhhh!

Tuesday morning will bring me to a stop at Wolf Mountain Vineyards (left), a Gold Medal recipient at the San Francisco Wine Competition for their Private Reserve Sauvignon Blanc.

Wednesday will find me hopefully in downtown Atlanta for a hot dog at The Varsity. The Varsity is the biggest hot-dog stand in the world, covering one city block in downtown Atlanta. More than 15,000 hungry customers pass through Varsity's doors each day.

After the long-anticipated stop at the Varsity, I want to travel to Decatur and a visit to Claremont Elementary School where I learned speed reading when I first learned to read. Oh, and Claremont Elementary is one thing Jack Kirksey and I share. We both attended Claremont, albeit a few years apart.
Thursday will find me in Woodstock, Ga., with a good book, and several glasses of green tea.
This typewriter will be on the road again for ten days arriving back at the Musings Estate on the 20th hopefully time to get ready for the mulch to arrive on the 25th, the Zonjic Concert the first week in May, and the. . .well it just seems that no matter how much I enjoy hitting the road again there is nothing like returning home.

This week, Congresswoman Haley Stevens presented Livonia Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan, Councilman Brandon McCullough, and Parks & Recreation Director Ted Davis with a $3,000,000 check for the Livonia Senior Center Improvements Project.

It was a chilly morning as the typewriter pulled into the Churchill Parking lot ready for the big game. The Charity Game between Churchill and Stevenson.
The teams were out on the field warming up. The parents were organizing the gift baskets while others were busy selling raffle tickets.
Couldn't help but notice that all the players, both teams, were wearing Jersey 22 with the name Jones on the back.
This was not just any game. It was a game that would have no losers, only winners as both teams were helping to raise money for the cancer battle underway for Matt Jones, a beloved coach of all ages and all schools.
Coach Abe Vinitski says that he "can’t say enough about how much Matt deserves our community support right now. We love our rivalry (with Stevenson) and we want to bring home some wins for our kids, but to make our first priority something bigger than the game shows our kids it is always WE before ME. Let’s go Chargers and Spartans, beat cancer."
There was Matt Jones out giving a fist bump to the teams as they came out to start the game. Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan shared a pep talk with each team before throwing out the first pitch.
Franklin had their game canceled so their team came over to add their voices to the crowd of supporters. Supporting the game and supporting the cause.
There was School Board Trustee Karen Bradford bringing her family to the game. And so many young families out supporting their team and their coach. All in all, it was a good afternoon--cold or not--as the heartfelt warmth of a community rallying to help win the battle against cancer.
Naw. It was not cold. The day just felt so good that the temperature did not even register.
Today Livonia put the WE before the ME.

Through the end of April our Livonia Kiwanis Early Risers will be collecting gently worn, used, and new shoes. Donations can be dropped off at the Livonia Chamber of Commerce, Five Mile and Farmington.

LDC set to host Membership Mixer, 4/23 |
Livonia will no longer have one State Representative representing 95% of the city. Now Livonia will have 2 State Representatives representing Livonia, Redford, and parts of Detroit and 1 State Representative representing Livonia and Plymouth.
With that in mind the Livonia Democratic Club is hosting a Membership Mixer April 23rd from 6:00 - 9:00 at our Lady of Loretto Community Center, Six Mile and Beech Daly. A mixer to have guests running in the newly drawn districts. meet potential voters.

Wayne 11th Republicans to host
Republican candidates 4/18

The Wayne 11th Republican organization is providing an opportunity for their precinct delegates to meet candidates prior to the Republican State Endorsement Convention. The event will include a dinner of pasta, salad, rolls, and soft drinks. The dinner costs $22.00 and can be reserved at Event Bright.
They believe this will provide an environment to meet and engage the candidates prior to the State Endorsement Convention.
These individuals will be running for the party nomination for the following positions on the November ballot: Attorney General, Secretary of State, Michigan Supreme Court, Michigan State Board of Education, U of M Board of Regents, Michigan State University Trustees, and Wayne State University Board of Governors.
All candidates running have been invited to attend.
