Kiwanis Club of Livonia Early Risers know how to be kind and to say Thank you Livonia
Emily Bagwell along with the members of the Kiwanis Club of Livonia Early Risers offers up one big "Thank you, Livonia!" And with good reason. Read on and see if you have a smile after seeing what they accomplished in just 4 short weeks.
The Kiwanis Club of Livonia Early Risers focuses on helping local children. This year, they did this in a new way by collecting donations for the Methodist Children's Home Society's Detroit Resource Center.
The Kiwanis of Michigan District Governor tasked local Kiwanis clubs to start a new club project that helps children aged 0-5 years old in the community, to fit into a program called "Children Are Our Future." Livonia Kiwanis members thought this would be a great opportunity to conduct a donation drive, and after speaking with a representative from the Detroit Resource Center, Kiwanians found out that baby formula is an item that does not get donated as often. Many people do diaper drives, but items like wipes and formula are sometimes left behind.
The Resource Center accepts donations of diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby food, shampoo, new baby clothing, and new baby toys. Every donation goes directly to a family experiencing infant-essentials insecurity.
Livonia Kiwanis partnered with Livonia Citizens Caring About Black Lives to host a baby item donation drive, with the Livonia Chamber of Commerce graciously becoming the drop-off location. After reaching out to many community groups and local businesses, there was an overwhelming desire to provide help from the Livonia Community!
Livonia Kiwanis was blown away with support from local organizations and businesses that donated towards the cause. Some businesses donated a gift card to purchase supplies, generously wrote a check that was used to purchase bulk supplies, and others put out donation boxes and collected their own items to drop off.
Overall, the group collected a Total donation count of the following:
7,527 diapers
5,306 baby wipes
3,928 ounces of formula
Additional miscellaneous items including a stroller, 25 pounds of baby food, and bottles.
They could not have done it without the generous donations from the following businesses and organizations:
