Hardies Family Trust is Kind helping build a better Livonia |

In December our Livonia Civic Chorus directed by Jeff Swan and accompanied by Kimberly Swan provided our hometown with a virtual concert that set the tone and pace for the holiday season. In May they will once again share musical skills and enjoyable music in a virtual setting, sponsored by the Hardies Family Trust, Livonia Community Foundation and Livonia Parks and Recreation.
So get ready to be entertained by the Livonia Civic Chorus. Details will be out soon so keep looking for the date and the virtual information to put a smile on your face.
Thank you Bob Hardies for thinking ahead to see that donations from your Family Trust benefits Livonia art and culture, both short term and long term. The Hardies Family Trust donated $19,000 to the Livonia Civic Chorus helping make this concert possible.

The Clarenceville Trojans wrestling team will have a new wrestling mat this Fall thanks to the $18,000 donated by Hardies Family Trust.
This Upgrade of the current mat which are approximately 20 years old provides a better representation for the school and wrestling program
The new mat provides for the possibility of potential future revenue by hosting tournaments. There will be tournament Fees from each participating team and revenue from concessions stand.
By purchasing a new mat and by shifting the old mat to the middle school will provide the ability to simultaneously have HS team practice while MS team has a meet or vice versa.
A significant benefit to promoting MS team allows students to get an earlier experience in the sport so they may grow even more as athletes and students.

Help raise $10,000 for 1,000 braille books for blind children!
Seedlings Braille Books for Children’s Spring Online Auction opens this Tuesday, April 20, at 8 a.m. EST!
For every 100 books a sighted child has, a child who is blind has just five! That's because braille books are rare and expensive, often costing hundreds of dollars each. How can a child become literate without books?
Seedlings Braille Books for Children is auctioning off gift baskets, handmade pottery, collectibles, gourmet food items, electronic items and more from 8 a.m. April 20, 2021, to 10 p.m. April 27, 2021, to raise $10,000 for 1,000 braille books for blind and visually impaired children around the world.

Thank you Bob Hardies for thinking ahead to see that donations from your Family Trust benefits Livonia non-profit organizations, both short term and long term. The Hardies Family Trust donated $25,000 to Seedlings helping make the continued printing of braille books possible. The donation replaced an old unreliable "burster" to not only print current demands but also the increased need for children sheltering at home due to COVID.
So lets get behind the Seedlings spring on-line auction so we can get new books into the hands of those who want to read.

When you read today's Musings I will be sitting in a private room at the historic Berea hotel, Boone Tavern which was built in 1909 at the suggestion of Nellie Frost, the wife of the College president, William G. Frost.
Boone Tavern Hotel & Restaurant– named for Appalachian hero Daniel Boone – has been hosting visitors of Berea, Kentucky, ever since, including the Dalai Lama, Henry Ford, President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, Eleanor Roosevelt, Maya Angelou, Robert Frost and the typewriter on numerous visits.
Construction of Boone Tavern began in 1909 at a cost of $20,000. The building, made of bricks manufactured by students in the College's brickyard, was constructed by the College's Woodwork Department.
The "Tavern" portion of the name is derived from the historic definition that refers to a public inn for travelers rather than the modern definition related to the sale of alcohol.
Built at a prominent location on the College Square in the heart of Berea where the old Dixie Highway intersected with the campus, Boone has become one of the most famous Kentucky hotels.
Now on to Georgia and a visit to my old hometown of Decatur and the historic boarding house where Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone with the Wind.

Join the many volunteers, civic organizations, scout or school groups, and the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department throughout the city from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, for one day dedicated solely to take care and preserve the beautiful parks right here in our own community. Taking pride in LIVONIA is contagious and the benefits are endless!
Immediately following the time in the parks, we’ll end the day with a picnic at the Ford Field baseball diamonds (33841 Lyndon) to thank everyone for their time and commitment.

How you can reserve your
"Congrats" Class of 2021 Banner
|
When the "Congrats Grad" Class of 2021 banners come down at the end of June, they will be put on light poles at Five and Farmington, Dan MacIver who sponsored the banners will be making them available for you to give to graduates, son, daughter, neighbor, or just a favorite graduate.
The first two banners have already been spoken for, Jim Jolly will take a Stevenson banner and Brandon McCullough a Franklin banner. They met up with MacIver on Monday to make the first payment of $50 per banner with the proceeds going to the All-Night Senior Party at each of our high schools.
When the banners sell out each High School All Night Party will receive $400, a total of $1,600 and 32 students will get a banner to remember their senior graduation and that the community they call home appreciated and congratulated them.
To reserve your banner simply send a check made out to the school of your choice Senior All Night Party and mail it in the care of Bill Joyner, 19514 Bainbridge, 48152. Checks will be bundled and turned over to the committee at each school.
Banners arrive this Friday and the city will be placing them soon afterward.
