We have a clear majority of Americans , as high as 63 percent who are more worried about re-opening the country too fast and potentially worsening the pandemic than opening it too slowly and worsening the economy.
We still have a minority of protesters upset that government is trying to keep them healthy. Leonard Pitts describes it as "they demand their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of acute respiratory distress."
We have some governors opening up their states despite the best advice of medical professionals. Tattoo's? Hair cuts? Beaches? Really?
Here in Michigan we have protesters exercising their right to speak up and speak out, all for that a 100%, turning what could be a serious discussion about the benefits of opening slow and the detriment to the economy by opening slow.
I have made my decision. My decision because it is my life.
I love that there is such an outpouring of support for the staff at St. Mary's. Way to go Livonia Lions, Livonia Kiwanis and Livonia Rotary AM. Organizing lunches and dinners, covering multiple shifts. Way to go Matt Collins for pulling this together.
I love that our hometown is reaching out to the nursing and long term care facilities in Livonia. Tender. Loving. Care. Way to go Mayor Brosnan for pulling this together.
I love the police department doing drive by honks for children having milestone birthdays. I smiled watching those on Facebook. Way to go Chief Caid for pulling thistogether.
I love seeing the dozens of signs thanking our front line hero's. The dozens of signs thanking the different professions that often go unrecognized. Way to go Bob Modes, Geno Grabinski, Eric Ladwig for pulling this together.
Here is the rub and I have no idea as to how many citizens of Livonia will agree with me. I have a feeling that there is a silent majority. I can't believe I just used the mantra of Richard Nixon. My dad would be proud as he voted for him. But I want to salute our "other" hometown heroes. All the people who are staying home, practicing the medical recommendations of face mask, gloves, distancing. When they go out they do curbside, not coming in contact with anyone.
I am one that will not rush out and sit in a restaurant. Nope. Go to my favorite theatre, Phoenix. Sorry Cory Jacobson. Nope.
I ordered my lawn supplies two weeks ago. Drove to ACE Hardware, popped the trunk open, in went the supplies. Waved good bye. No contact.
I ordered up dinner from Big Boy, Corsi's, Koney Island Inn. Drove up. Drove out. My trunk has never had so much experience. Drive up. Drive out. No contact.
I ordered up Zingerman's challah bread, palmeri, green tea from the Tuscan. Drove up. My order placed in the window. My mask and gloves on. Drove out.
When Covid-19 is no longer a threat. I want to hear it from the professional medical experts. One candidate for state representative posted that people must be idiots that do not see that this is a takeover or revocation of our rights.
Call me an idiot. I am one of those who salute those staying home and doing it right. I have added them to my list of heroes.
