What a weekend in support of Livonia's nature, sustainability, and environment.
|
Last week it was the Stainability Fair sponsored by the Greenleaf Commission and this week saw 150 students planting trees around Livonia, the opening of the Library Seed Catalogue, and in some households the delivery of compost for gardens starting to bud out.
Three 5-gallon compost containers were delivered from Midtown Composting. The bodyguard and typewriter thank Carrie Budzinski for introducing us to Midtown Composting during her council campaign. Once a week we put out a container for pickup. We get the end result, 15 gallons free, and the option of purchasing additional compost to use in our garden.
|
Lori Hover Nersesian is another endorser of Midtown Composting writing, "We love this service! I read about it on your musings last year and immediately signed up. We tried to compost ourselves and it was an epic fail. We were so happy to learn that this was available. Totally worth the price."
And now the city of Plymouth has partnered with Midtown Composting to promote residential composting. This is something that the City of Livonia should consider with perhaps the Greenleaf Commission on Sustainability getting behind a recommendation.

Franklin High School's Tree-Plenish day had leaders and volunteers planting 150 trees around town, including three, redbud and River Birch at the Musings Estate.
The four students who arrived and planted our three trees in what we call our incubator garden, where we start trees, shrubs and flowers, were so good, digging the holes, burying the roots and telling us what needed to be done.
Thank you Franklin High School for this Arbor week project and thank you for supporting climate action through the planting of trees.
|
As if that was not enough we traveled over to the Bennett Civic Library to check out some seeds, five in total, Zinnia, Basil, Lavender, sweet pepper, and beefsteak tomato.
The Library also had planting tips in a presentation by Librarian Ken Bignotti in the Library Auditorium. Learned so much. Good to see two members of the Library Commission Dave Parr and Mary Morrison.
Recommendation: next year Livonia should coordinate a Sustainability Fair, Composting information, Library Seed Catalogue, E-vehicle show and tree planting. A synergy embracing the entire community.

Community Support for the Arts
|
Livonia supports the arts. For real. Musings continues to update the art/cultural organizations that call Livonia home.
Check out this list and if you see one missing, my bad, send it along. Then share this jpg on your own art organization's social media, newsletter, etc. Let's tell as many others as our reach extends to.
Livonia is proud. Livonia is the cultural heartbeat of southeast Michigan.
The typewriter can not sing but I can type and I will continue typing about Livonia arts.
