Livonia friends of St. Baldrick's showed up at the Grand Tavern and raised over $10,000 to fight pediatric cancer !!!

The Bloody Mary Sunday for St. Baldrick's was a huge success this past weekend and now here is the big announcement on the dollars raised at the Grand Tavern to help in the fight against pediatric cancer.

$10,158. In four hours over $10,000 was raised for the 2023 St. Baldrick's kick off event. Let me repeat that again, $10,158.

Congratulations to the leading bartenders and the number of tips they took in to support the cause. ADAM PELC AND REBECCA- $1265, SYANN SUBLETTE AND HAILEY- $1600, ADAM GLIDDEN AND TAJMA- $2018

Mark Kulacki, pictured here, chair of the event and of the 2023 St. Baldrick's fight in Livonia to defeat pediatric cancer, acknowledges some huge thanks:

"To the Grand Tavern staff for letting us take your place over for basically an entire weekend. The St Baldrick's Volunteer staff for donating their time in prepping and pulling off such a smooth event. The Target Westland crew for volunteering, as always. Tito's Handmade Vodka, Independent Bank, First Centennial Title, and all of our other sponsors.

"All of the Bars and Restaurants that participated in the Bloody Mary Brawl, thank you for all of your hard work. And of course, the guest bartenders for donating their time and their tips to our amazing cause.

"The real winners include the St Baldrick's Organization and the kids these grants touch.

On behalf of all of our Volunteer Staff and the St Baldricks Foundation, THANK YOU ALL!!

"Next event is the Kids Summer Bash June 11th."

Clarenceville students to learn the basics of flying drones

Clarenceville High School will if all goes well in the coming months be offering a drone class as a part of the school curriculum.

Paul Shepich, Clarenceville Superintendent said it's all part of keeping education relevant.

This project is a partnership between the Clarenceville Public Schools and Livonia Kids & Families.

Imagine the Clarenceville High School Drone Air Force with 25 students participating in a program to keep education current and topical.

It's the kind of education journey that many of us can only shake our heads at as it would seem to be an atypical educational offering. To this typewriter, it seems that it will open up new career paths for some students.

Drones. The future. New windows opening up. Drones are in police work. It is in the film industry. And in so many other career callings that might just light up the imagination and excitement among students.

The Board of Education gave the first reading of the course offering this week at a Board meeting. Livonia Kids & Families working with an anonymous community benefactor will be providing the drones for student and school use.

Need service? You can show up or register in advance to make sure we will have the right equipment for your vehicle.

Want to volunteer? Attend our Monthly Zoom Planning meetings on the FIRST TUESDAY of each month from 7pm-8pm. Volunteering is also a great way to learn how to offer a similar service to your community.

What motivates FridayMusings:

We can't only define Livonia as taking small steps toward maintaining the way things were. That will give us mediocre outcomes. Our goal needs to be innovative and transformative.

It's time to start spring cleaning and getting your gently used items gathered up and ready to donate. This year they will be taking baby and infant clothes only.

Take Pride in Livonia Day

Four years ago Brandon McCullough seeking his first term on the City Council signed up, recruited 18 friends, and spent the morning of Pride in Livonia Day sprucing up Stymelski Park.

This year will be no different as he will meet up with the folks from Clements Circle Homeowner Association and President Steve Alexander to work in their neighborhood park. From there he will stop by to check in with the Save the Library volunteers at Noble Library. And then on to Ben Cellani Park for the dedication of the new all-inclusive park.

Jim Baringhaus dropped a dime on the typewriter to say after reading about the challenge in Musings called the parks office, signed up for one, and is organizing folks to join him at the Golfview Nature Preserve.

Carrie Budzinski is taking a different approach having already scheduled a Flower Brunch, by inviting folks to come out to make some bouquets of flowers. People will take home their bouquets to brighten up springtime at their houses.

Thank you, Brandon, Jim, and Carrie. If we hear of other candidates we will be sure to pass that information along as well.
