Proposition J
JAIL MILLAGE RENEWAL
To renew the millage authorized in 2012, shall Wayne County be authorized to continue to levy this millage at the 2021 rollback rate of .9358 mills (about 94 cents per thousand dollars of taxable valuation) for ten more years (2022 through 2031) for any of the following previously authorized uses: To acquire, construct, and/or operate jail, misdemeanant, or juvenile incarceration or detention facilities, and for adult penalty options such as work release, home detention and community restitution; with at least one-tenth of the millage used to acquire, build and operate a juvenile offender work/training institution? This renewal is estimated to generate approximately $45,074,507 in property tax revenue in 2022.
We hear often that government has the responsibility for public safety. That being the case voters should consider that we need to pass the Wayne County Jail Millage renewal as defined above and which will be on the August 2nd ballot.
County Commissioner Glenn Anderson sums up what this proposal is all about. "The renewal of the jail millage will continue to provide funding essential to keep our citizens safe, operation of the county jail and support for crucial criminal justice programs. I urge support for its renewal."
FridayMusings believes that Livonia would be well-served with the passage of the jail renewal millage and urges a Yes Vote on Proposal J this August.

Wayne County Commissioner Glenn Anderson
For eight years Glenn Anderson represented Livonia as our State Senator.
We know him as an elected official we can trust and rely on, who is highly visible, and who can be held accountable for the positions he takes because he knows how to communicate, face to face, on the telephone, or through his written communication.
|
We now have an opportunity to have Glenn Anderson again represent Livonia. This time as he seeks re-election as a Wayne County Commissioner.
On issue after issue Anderson knows how to stand up and be counted. At times he is willing to take on the establishment paradigm and when the issue is one that is positive for his district he will say yes and work to bring results back to the constituents he represents.
A veteran of local and state government, Anderson previously served for eight years as a State Senator (2007-14), six years as a State Representative (2001-06) and nine years as a member of the Westland City Council (1991-2000), and was also a member of the Wayne County Ethics Board.
As a state legislator, Anderson's focus centered on ending bullying in schools, protecting children, reforming the redistricting process, and strengthening both consumer protection and government transparency.
His legislative service was recognized by numerous organizations. Anderson received the Hero of Breast Cancer Award from the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and also was named Legislator of the Year by Michigan Chiefs of Police, Police Officers Association of Michigan and the Michigan Hemophilia Association.
|
In addition to his service in elected positions, Commissioner Anderson has been deeply involved in the community, holding membership in numerous commissions, associations, and civic organizations. Not only is he a former Jaycee, but he has also been involved with the Westland Goodfellows, Western Wayne NAACP, Churchill High School PTA, and many other charitable and community organizations.
Prior to his career in public service, Anderson was employed by Ford Motor Co. and has been a member of the United Auto Workers since 1972. He and his wife, Gail, have lived in Westland since 1978. They have two adult children, Melissa and Kyle, and three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Logan, and Luellyn.
Livonia will benefit from the addition of Glenn Anderson as a Commissioner in our hometown. We will now have two County Commissioners, Anderson and Terry Marecki, ready to stand up for Livonia.
FridayMusings believes that Livonia would be well-served with the re-election of Glenn Anderson for the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.

Congresswoman Tlaib honored by Westland
"So honored today to be given the Eco-Award by the City of Westland in recognition of our environmental justice advocacy.
The Earth Day event at the Westland City Hall centered on the city's Mission: Green projects throughout the city. Special thanks to Mayor Bill Wild and Westland City Council for their partnership. "

As temperatures move up so
too does retail politics. Gotta love it.
|
Retail politics returns with the warming of the season. In reviewing candidate facebook and social media postings two candidates, Matt Koleszar and Laure Pohutsky have started wearing out the soles of their shoes as they embark on meeting voters in their current district and new communities.
|
We find Representative Pohutsky in a new district that includes northeast Livonia, Redford, and Detroit.
She is unopposed in the Democratic primary while two Republicans, Penny Crider and Jeff Vega will square off in August.
Representative Koleszar adds southwest Livonia to his district in Plymouth and Northville.
He is unopposed in the Democratic primary while two Republicans Cathryn Neracher and Rob Donovic will square off in August.
FridayMusings will cover each of the campaigns in both August and November. If candidates forward information Musings will be happy to report what they have to offer in full. Otherwise, Musings will include updated social media, Facebook, and Website when found.
With 3 State Representative Districts, two Senate Districts, and two County Commissioner Districts we will all need to be vigilant to stay current on who will represent Livonia in 2023.
|
Penny Crider uses this posting to make it easy for her followers to see what district she is running in. One of the new Livonia House districts. Should she win the primary in August she will square off in November against Laurie Pohutsky.
|
The next Coffee Hour hosted by County Commissioner Glenn Anderson is scheduled for Westland and Garden City is Mon. May 9!
Anderson says that he is "Looking forward to seeing you there!"
|
Get your running shoes on and join us for the annual Run 2 Save Our Youth at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Livonia City Hall.
