Livonia continues communicating on the process being undertaken by Livonia Vision 21--providing context to some of the steps being taken
|
|
With Musings having shared preliminary renderings of the proposed Senior Citizen Project the City of Livonia reached out and is providing a little more context on the Senior Citizen center as it relates to the Livonia Vision 21.
|
|
Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan:
“Alongside addressing our public safety staff shortages, moving Livonia Vision 21 forward is my top priority. Through a partnership with Congresswoman Haley Stevens and potential American Rescue Plan funding, we hope to take a huge step forward in implementing our community-inspired, resident-driven master plan.”
|
|
Mark Taormina, Livonia’s Director of Planning and Economic Development:
“Livonia Vision 21 identifies a new space for the Senior Center as a top priority early in the plan’s implementation. This key step would build momentum for further reimagining of the City Center area that includes our civic center campus.”
|
|
Ted Davis, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation:
“Livonia is home to nearly 19,000 residents ages 65 or above, so excellent senior services and programs are vital to our community. This Senior Center project aims to expand seniors’ access to our broader Parks and Recreation offerings while transforming the gathering spaces our seniors use, modernizing them and making them safer in a COVID-19 environment.”

Today is …
the perfect day to support the Livonia Community Theatre founder-Pat Hutchison
She has a passion for theatre. She has a heart for families and Community. Nearly 10 years ago, Patricia Hutchison, a retired Livonia Public School music and drama teacher, retired after 30 years, founded Livonia Community Theatre with “familiy” and “Community” as its core mission. The Theatre is proud to still have the same vision for Livonia and the surrounding communities.
Their mission is to provide opportunities for everyone to participate in drama and musical theater. We have stayed true to ourselves by providing family-friendly programming and community-focused educational opportunities that are accessible by everyone. That has only been made possible as a result of donations from generous supporters just like you.
In her 30+ years with Livonia Public Schools and 10+ years with LCT, she has had a positive impact on 1,000’s of individuals and families throughout our Livonia Community. This year, as a personal tribute to Pat, the Theatre is excited to launch the Pat Hutchison Founders Fund in celebration of her birthday on June 1. As little as $5 or $10 month donation will ensure they continue to leave a lasting legacy in Livonia.
You can also help the Livonia Community Theatre by sharing this information with your friends who are supportive of Livonia arts.

August 28 Touch-a-Truck is Back
Churchill Interact Rotary Club and Rotary Club of Livonia A.M. had tentatively canceled Touch a Truck 2021 in July at Greenmead mostly due to covid restrictions & concerns.
We have met with Livonia Parks and Rec and will be again sponsoring Touch a Truck at Greenmead but on Saturday, August 28th from 9-2 pm.
The city will be requiring pre-registration and will limit the number of visitors per block of time. Greenmead will be handling the preregistration and we should have details on this shortly.
Again, the event will be free but with $1 for parking. At the last event in 2019, we had 50 different trucks. We are pleased to be able to do this event for Livonia and area families!

May 15 Plant Sharing is Back
Join the Livonia Garden Club for their annual plant sharing at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15, near the Simmons-Hill House at Greenmead Historical Park. Everyone is welcome to come and share perennials, annual seeds, houseplants, and even pots, tags, and yard art. There is no charge. The event is a “plant sharing” and not a “plant exchange.” Everyone is encouraged to come and take plants whether or not they have anything to share.
The club asks people bringing items to share to pot them (plastic pots, bags, etc.) and label, if possible. Garden Club members will assist with plant identification for people bringing in “unknown” plants from their yards. The plants will be placed on various tables for “sun,” “shade,” “houseplants,” etc. with the assistance of Garden Club members. There will also be a table for free garden-related items. For more information, call (734) 679-2527.

Okay, so I have never really been gone. But to me, and after all it is all about me, I feel back. Back in a good way.
Two shots going on 3 months since the second. Still wearing a mask. Sorry you anti-vaccers and anti maskers but I still follow science and believe in science. Call me all that you want but as a result this 71 year old, short chubby guy is back. Feeling safer.
Kentucky and Georgia last week. Colorado this week. A new grandchild on the way. A two year old grandson who loves to say Meeechigun.
Getting plans in place for the Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast. Thanks to the Hardies Family Trust and AlphaUSA am able to donate $500 to the Livonia Lions for their corn preparation and $500 to Greenmead for use of the park site for the gathering of 1000 Livonia residents enjoying a beautiful Fall day on September 19.
Plant Sharing, Wilson Barn Car Show, Bob Bennett Memorial Classic, Touch-a-Truck.
Brandon McCullough is making plans for the Red Wing Alumni Hockey Game against Livonia All-stars in October at Eddie Edgar.
Livonia Hall of Fame will again be the first Thursday in October.
I feel back. Kinda like the first toe being dipped into the ocean for a swim. It is ice cold but soon warms up and the fun is just a couple of steps more.
Be safe. Get your vaccine. Wear your mask when called on. And accept the road to normalcy.

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and IHA Livonia Medical Center opens on Schoolcraft College campus
Site will include outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Center
|
Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and IHA’s new Livonia Medical Center located on the campus of Schoolcraft College is now open. This newly constructed 124,000-square-foot health care facility is located adjacent to I-275 off Seven Mile Road on the newly renamed St. Joe's Parkway campus service drive.
At this new, state-of-the-art location, St. Joe’s and IHA are bringing together leading health care providers and services to offer a continuum of care under one roof to Livonia and the surrounding communities.
"The Livonia Medical Center, positioned right in the middle of our southeast Michigan region, will bring IHA physicians closer to this community, providing seamless care across our physician offices, outpatient facilities, and hospitals," said Rob Casalou, president and CEO, Trinity Health Michigan. "We have been working to bring health care out into the community where people live, work and play, and this medical center located on the Schoolcraft College campus is a great example of that successful effort.”
The new center opened on Monday, April 19, with St. Joe’s Medical Group (SJMG) Sports Medicine as the first practice to move in, followed by IHA Livonia Primary Care on April 26.
|
The IHA Urgent Care, previously located within the Jeffress Center on campus, relocated to the new building on April 23. The urgent care is open 7 days a week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including holidays.
"This expansive center includes primary, specialty, and urgent care; as well as ancillary and advanced imaging services including MRI, ultrasound, and mammography,” said Jason Harris, vice president of Planning and Development for IHA. “Coming together with St. Joe's as part of one health care family, we are dedicated to providing greater access to care with lower cost and higher value for patients in the communities we serve."
An ambulatory surgery center is currently under construction to provide outpatient procedures, such as orthopedic and general surgeries, with the ability for overnight stays if necessary. In addition, a full-service retail pharmacy will support the surgical suite, urgent care, and physician offices as well as the entire local community. Onsite amenities, including a coffee shop, will create a comfortable waiting area for patients and their families.
For more information or to reach someone to schedule an appointment, please visit LivoniaMedicalCenter.org.
Schoolcraft College currently has majors and programs in nursing, pharmacy, health information technology, and medical assisting among the many choices. The college plans to launch an advanced imaging program for radiation technology students to coincide with the opening of the new medical facility.

“We’re very pleased to see the Livonia Medical Center come online and extend a hearty welcome to our campus,” said Dr. Glenn Cerny, president of Schoolcraft College. “Having the many specialty practices located in a convenient and familiar location is a tremendous asset for our community. We’re also excited that our new Health Sciences Center is just across the street, creating a great opportunity for many of our students in our healthcare-related programs to literally go from classroom to a vital, in-demand job and fulfilling career.”
Additionally, as part of the ongoing collaboration between Schoolcraft College and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, the St. Joe’s Mercy Elite Sports Center on campus opened earlier this year. The 74,000-square-foot multi-purpose space includes eight volleyball courts, a running track, soccer training space, and fitness and rehabilitation space. Mercy Elite provides physical therapy, strength and conditioning, and fitness training for all interested schools, clubs, teams, or individuals. A state-of-the-art fitness laboratory, classroom space, and faculty offices for Schoolcraft College’s Associate Degree program in Movement Science also share the space.
