30 minutes before the opening number the parking lot at the Civic Center Senior Center was filling up. The foyer was filling up. The box for Mac and Cheese donations was filling up. And before you knew it the audience was filling up. Yes, this was a concert that was filling that pent-up demand for lively music from one of Livonia's favorite musical groups, the Livonia Civic Chorus.
At exactly 3:00 the 30 members of the Chorus filed in, music director Jeff Swan, pointed his baton at the musicians for the concert, turned to the Chorus, and the opening song, It's a Grand Night for Singing, set the tone for the evening. It was a grand night, well afternoon, but no one is going to change the lyrics of this Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite.
The Livonia Civic Chorus had continued practicing throughout the pandemic, at times in person and at times from home with individual voices combined through the magic of technology. This was the second in-person concert of the year following two virtual concerts that kept the string alive of the Livonia Civic Chorus' 57 years.

Pretty Little Angel Eyes brought some foot-tapping, lips moving and heads nodding. Another one-hit wonder that we all remember.
As is their tradition the Chorus brought up soloists that enhanced the quality of the performance. Jim Hovey in The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Andrew Palmer in Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight.
Allison Butterore in Stuck in the Middle with You and Kathleen Chichester along with David Reich in Rock the Boat.
One of the favorites for this typewriter was It's Raining Men with soloists Allison Buttermore and Connie Turzak.
Listening to Another One Bites the Dust by the men in the chorus this typewriter loved one or two repeats of the title but now I know why this song never resonated with me. But Carole Moon in Rhythm of the Night was a good segway from Biting the Dust.
The Chorus was quick to post a thank you on Social Media to let their hometown know of their appreciation. "With a dedicated group of singers, a fantastic musical team (Jeff And Kimberly Swan) the concert was excellent! Our show committee, led by Melinda Thornton, choose great songs and the musicians added depth to each song we sang.
"The sound crew is an added bonus to LCC who also live-streamed the performance. Thanks to all those behind the scene that made this show happen! Thank you for donating to Blessings in a Backpack, through your generosity 88 boxes of Mac and Cheese were collected!"

Yes! On the Road Again.
The typewriter is off and running. Well off and flying to Colorado for the 1st birthday party for granddaughter Maya and to see the big guy, Leonardo, who just turned 3.

The trip is only for 6 days. Far too short but a trip nonetheless.
One other benefit is that I get to see Raquel's mother, Guara, who arrived this week for a two-week visit. Arrived from, drum roll, arrived from Brazil. Want to learn more about her recently published book, in Portuguese of course, dealing with, I think, physics in the house.

I count on all of you, the readers of Musings, to keep me up to date on all that is going on in our hometown.
Next month it will be a tour of North Carolina. Being on the road again is what I look forward to.
