The Black Wall Street massacre in Tulsa, Oklahoma of 1921 was one of the darkest moments in american history, yet many hadn't even heard of the Tulsa 1921 massacre.
Beginning on May 31, 1921, thousands of armed white Tulsans invaded the Black section of the booming oil town, burning to the ground 35 square blocks of the city. Before it was over there were more than 10,000 Black people left homeless with more than 6,000 interned in camps where they'd stay, some, for months.
Now we have an entire generation or more growing up who have no idea that this happened. A false reality. Can you picture today having our children growing up who have never heard of 9/11, as if it didn't exist.
By being made aware of Tulsa it will help us reevaluate how we look at the past.
As Scott Ellsworth, a native Tulsan and a professor of African American history at the University of Michigan explains "I think that's been a liberating process for some people. It's been a very difficult one for others."
I could not let this week go by without acknowledging this dark moment in our history.

Seedlings Spotlight!
Alyssa (pictured) is one of “our kids!” Check out this nice quote her mom sent into Seedlings:
“My daughter's name is Alyssa and she is blind. She is 12 years old. One of her favorite things to do is read and Seedlings makes this possible! She just finished the Little House on the Prairie series.
She would sit and read all day if she could. We are so glad for the big variety of books we can get with Seedlings!”
We are so glad to hear you love to read, Alyssa! Happy reading!

It's time to start getting your donations for this year's LDC Garage Sale to Louise Weller's garage. It's less than two weeks away. It's a three day event with treasures donated by dozens of club members.
Thurs. June 10th – Sat. June 12th from 9 to 5 PM
If you want to donate items, call Louise at 248-513-7280. She would appreciate it if you price your items before you donate them.
Louise also needs to borrow tables to display items on, and canopies to protect from the weather. The club also needs volunteers to help out during the garage sale. Let Louise know what you can help her.
Her Garage is on Hubbard Road, between 5 Mile and Lyndon. Just a few blocks south of the Livonia Rec Center.
