the next step June 21st-Solarize Livonia

It's a beautiful sunny day and if you've considered going solar but don't know where to start the Greenleaf Commission on Sustainability - Livonia, Michigan has organized a Solarize Livonia - Neighborhood Meeting on Tuesday, June 21st at 7 pm.

Neighboring communities to Livonia can also participate.
The June 21st Zoom meeting will allow residents to learn about solar energy systems and the neighborhood group purchase program. Explore how to save on the cost of installing a home renewable energy system that will make your home more environmentally friendly and will reduce your energy costs.

Matt Koleszar for re-election as State Representative

The redistricting for legislative seats at first blush is not good for Livonia as we no longer have one State Representative for our hometown, Laurie Pohutsky.

A further look and additional understanding of the new districts set up an alternative thought process. Livonia will now have 3 state representatives.

State Representative Laurie Pohutsky will represent the northeast section of Livonia, Redford, and part of Detroit. So we keep Pohutsky representing Livonia as she is the odds-on favorite to win re-election.

The western part of Livonia from Eight Mile to Joy Road and approximately Farmington Road west will join a portion of Northville Township, City of Northville, and a portion of Plymouth Township with the City of Plymouth. Get a full picture of the new district here:



That new district has another incumbent, Matt Koleszar, running for re-election. Koleszar will be seeking his third term as State Representative.

Koleszar, a former teacher before winning election 4 years ago, understands the need for a strong public school system. He works diligently and some suggest tirelessly to see that our public schools get the finances they need to continue providing a strong educational system for our children.

He has the strong support of police and fire having been endorsed by the Police Officers Association of Michigan, the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police, and the Michigan Professional Firefighters Union.
As a State Representative Koleszar has earned the endorsement for his support of environmental issues of the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters.

Labor realizes Koleszar's support for working men and women with the endorsement of the AFL-CIO, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, and AFSCME.

Musings offer up these endorsements of Koleszar to showcase some of his work over the past 4 years and to underscore the fact that he is in a different district, not to be confused with State Representative Laurie Pohutsky who has many of the same endorsements as she seeks her third term.

What sets Koleszar apart from his Republican opponent Cathryn Neracher is his willingness to represent the entire community, to listen to those he may disagree with to understand where they come from, to see what common ground they might have, and to make it a point between elections to maintain visibility and accessibility.

With all of this taken into consideration State Representative Matt Koleszar deserves to be welcomed into Livonia as another representative in Lansing standing up for the values we have as a hometown, just as he has for the past four years stood up for the values of Plymouth and Canton.

Vote Yes for the Livonia roads renewal

With absentee ballots coming out shortly it is important that we remember one of the key ballot proposals we will have an opportunity to vote on in the primary election.

Over the last 10 years, the streets Millage has funded 74 miles of street construction and repair in Livonia.

With the renewal of the local streets millage, it will mean a zero tax rate increase,

Without any question, by approving this millage the funding will protect our property values helping to maintain our neighborhoods with quality, safe roads.

Friends of Greenmead ... 32nd Annual Garden Walk

Start your summer off with a walk through five lovely Livonia gardens!

The 32nd Annual Garden Walk will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $9 online or at the Greenmead Office. Tickets and booklets will be available on the day of the walk for $10 at the Simmons-Hill House at Greenmead and the Bennett Civic Center Library.
