Livonia is a small town. When an engagement party for Maureen and Greg is organized our hometown stands up to applaud. Congratulations.
Maureen Miller Brosnan on Facebook described the evening at Flemings this past weekend this way: "It started with an invitation. Fun people came. Amazing food and delicious bubbly drinks were served. And some of the best people I know met Greg at an extraordinary engagement party. Big thanks to all who joined us, and even bigger thanks to our hosts Marvin and Sharon Walkon."

Music from the Heart kicks off this Thursday.
"Kick out the jams" by the MC5 represented to many a slogan of the 1960s ethos of kicking out restrictions. Well, it works for this typewriter some 50 years later. Entertainment is back. Socializing is in. So this Thursday let's kick out the jams, remove the restrictions and look to the future. Livonia is back.
Ian Clemens Foundation ready to roll in 2021

As Ian Clemens moved into his University of Michigan dorm in August of 2012, he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. 32 days after being diagnosed Ian passed away at the age of 17.

His family decided to start The Ian Clemens Memorial Scholarship at the University of Michigan – College of Engineering. 10 students have received this scholarship and will be adding another in the fall of 2021. The family then started The Ian Clemens Foundation. Through this foundation, Ian’s memory lives on.

The Annual Ian Clemens Foundation Poker Run is HAPPENING Sunday, August 1st. It will begin and end at St. Mary's Cultural Center with the vehicle check-in from 2:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The route is shorter this year due to gas prices and not knowing if we would be getting to pull this off. I promise you will have a GREAT time!! 

The Foundation board has decided not to be soliciting raffle prize donations from local businesses at this time. It is their feeling that so many of them are struggling to get back on their feet. If you personally would like to donate a gift card, raffle item, or raffle basket for the poker run, please email Michelle Clemens at m.clemens26@gmail.com.

Their Detroit Mystery History Tour is scheduled for Saturday, August 29th. Once everything is finalized they will open up registration on their website. Online registration will be coming soon.

Friends of the Library Book Sales back on the calendar

Friends of the Library was a great place on an overcast day for the typewriter to pick up some good reading material and a book on trains for Leo Joyner. Just ask volunteers Sheeba and Ramona.

Look for a special return on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11, and again July 24 and 25. Each day you can visit the book sale from 9:00 - 5:00.
Where else can you go to find hardcovers for $1.00, paperbacks for .50 ad romances for only .25? Oh, and don't forget to check out the audiovisuals which are priced individually.

The added benefit is meeting so many awesome volunteers and smiling patrons. Even a few drizzles did not keep the patrons away.

It was great to see the partnership with the Friends of Greenmead Garden Walk as they had a table set up for people to check-in and get tickets. Gotta love partnerships that benefit so many organizations.

Bill Bresler: I’ll vouch for the Drunken Rooster tacos (at the Food Truck Tuesday). They stopped at my daughter’s sub in Novi. It was kinda slow because each order is made as it comes in. But the food was great.

Kacie McCullough: As an educator myself, I absolutely support the bill being proposed by Senator Dayna Polehanki! This is an amazing way to get more educators who have first-hand classroom experience. I’ll be interested to see how it develops.

Carrie Budzinski: What a Friday issue! Paul Shepich's story is amazing and kind of him to share, I'm so glad to read he's in remission. We need to do all we can to address the teacher shortage. This is not like McDonald's having to change hours because it can't find staff, we NEED teachers. We're lucky to have Dayna (and Laurie) fighting the good fight in Lansing.

Kate Mackie: We will be live-streaming the Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church Memorial Service for Paula Joyner-Clinard on August 15th on our Facebook and YouTube pages for anyone not able to make it.
