5th Annual Livonia Jaycee Murder Mystery Gala |

The Livonia Jaycees present "Best Laid Plans" on August 20th at Burton Manor. This is a 1920's Hollywood Murder Mystery Gala. The event is being held in the memory of Renee Geisinger. A member of the Livonia Jaycees who had a passion for helping children with autism.
There will be a 3 course plated dinner with vegan and gluten-free options available. There will also be an open bar, a red carpet with a photographer, DJ, and a dance floor. There will even be a 50/50 raffle!
Proceeds from this event will benefit The Living and Learning Enrichment Center in Northville. They are an organization that helps children with autism develop the skills needed to live more fulfilled lives.

Victory Day at Madonna University August 6th |
A great event for children who are cognitively or physically impaired is coming up in a couple weeks. Help spread the word about the second annual Victory Day at Madonna University for cognitively and physically impaired children/adults.
The event takes place on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Madonna Athletic Complex (The MAC) at Newburgh Rd. and Five Mile.
Participants will have an opportunity to play football, volleyball, or soccer, run track, cheer, and have their "moment in the sun."
Each participant will be partnered with a Madonna student-athlete who will be their mentor. After the National Anthem is played, each child, dressed in a Victory Day t-shirt, will run through a tunnel formed by the student-athletes, as the child's name is announced over the loudspeaker.
Each participant will have an opportunity to run or catch a pass for a touchdown with play-by-play announcing. Other sports teams will have stations of activities. The Gridiron Club will serve hot dogs and drinks for the families after the event.

Livonia Felician Sister Celebrates her
100th Birthday
This past Sunday, a few days before her actual birthday, some 40 family members and friends celebrated the 100th birthday of Felician Sister Mary Presentine Ugorowski, of Livonia. They marked her special milestone with a birthday cake, flowers, and the sharing of stories.
Born July 21, 1922 in Detroit, Sr. Presentine was one of the triplets (photo below); the first three of 10 children. Only Sr. Presentine and her 89-year-old brother John, in Florida, are living.

In 1941, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Felix (CSSF)/Felician Sisters of North America, as a postulant at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Central Convent, in Livonia. She graduated from Madonna University in 1951 with a bachelor of arts in history and minors in social science and English. She earned her secondary provisional teaching certificate the following year and her secondary permanent certificate in 1956.
Sr. Presentine taught in many Detroit-area schools, including St. Stanislaus, Detroit (1944-46, 1952-54); Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wyandotte (1946-51); St. Casimir, Detroit (1951-52); Patronage of St. Joseph, Detroit (1960-65); St. Florian, Hamtramck (1965-66, 1976-78 as principal); St. Andrew, Detroit (1966-69, 1970-71, 1979-80); Ladywood High School, Livonia (1971-72, 1988-89); Bishop Borgess High School, Redford Township (1972-73); St. Valentine, Redford (1978-79, 1984-88); and as principal at St. Sabina, Dearborn Heights (1990-93), and St. Michael, Southfield (1996-99).
She also served as a library assistant at Madonna University (1969-70, 2003-11), and as an assistant purchasing director at St. Mary Hospital in Livonia (1980-84).

AG Nessel will talk about the 2022 Election as well as what she has accomplished since taking office in January 2019. She is a dynamic speaker and will bring the latest news from Lansing.
They usually have other candidates and office holders that share a few minutes of their time, as well. They expect a full house so you’ll want to get there early to save your seat!

This past weekend, a few of our officers stopped at a lemonade stand to help support 5-year-old Dax and 7-year-old Sawyer, who were raising money for the Free Wheelchair Foundation. This foundation provides free wheelchairs to those in need. With the support from the community, Dax and Sawyer were able to raise over $1,300 to purchase 14 wheelchairs. A big thank you to Dax and Sawyer for their commitment to serving the community! |

~Seedlings Spotlight!~
Alana (pictured) is one of Seedlings Kids.
“This is Alana! She is 11 and has a rare disease called SIFD (Sideroblastic Immunodeficiency Fever Disorder). It causes medical complications along with hearing loss and vision loss. She has very low vision, no peripheral vision, and no night vision. We just started working on braille last year, and she loves her braille books from Seedlings!”

Nearly 1 million dollars will provide a wonderful playground experience at the Ben Celani Play Area adjacent to Bicentennial Park. With the Celani family contributing $250,000 this area is a perfect partnership between Livonia and a philanthropic partner.
With plans underway for the Livonia Good Old Fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast there is a major announcement on the possible new location designed to showcase another part of 48152 and understanding how our parks play a significant role in Livonia quality of life--drawing new families moving into Michigan or new families wanting to enjoy the open spaces and recreation opportunities.
